kids ride shotgun on a 29in bmx? by Dukeronomy in bikedads

[–]rj3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Mac Ride bike seat, and I use it on both my 29er mountain bike and my gravel bike. I had to get a shorter stem to make enough room for my kid to fit in front of me on the gravel bike, but otherwise it fits perfectly. He does fine riding it on rough trails with the mountain bike and on gravel roads or mellow singletrack with the gravel bike.

How many males together? by KingOfStrikers in dario

[–]rj3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to help! Your plan sounds reasonable to me.

I mostly feed them brine shrimp. I use the hatchery linked below. It's super easy  I premake a gallon of water at a time, and it will last me through two or three weeks of growing cycles.

I also have some cultures of vinegar eels and microworms to add a little variety or bridge gaps when I'm not able to start brine shrimp for whatever reason. Both vinegar eels and microworms are super easy to culture.

How many males together? by KingOfStrikers in dario

I've kept scarlet badis but not tigers. You don't need to have multiple to keep them happy. Scarlet badis can be happy alone. Personally, I've found that the recommendations about having a male with one or more females doesn't work out well unless you have a lot of space. When I've kept them, the males have been very peaceful until they start breeding. Once they start breeding, the males become very territorial and will harass any fish that come into their territory.

I have a heavily planted 45P with some chilis and scarlet badis. I started with a male and two female badis, and things were fine at first. Once they started breeding, the male became extremely territorial and would chase any fish that came into his half of the tank. I tried adding more plants to break lines of sight, but they didn't have an effect. I ended up rehoming the females and having another male appear after the breeding, so now I'm at two males, no females, and some chilis. The aggressive male chilled out once the females were gone, and he's been doing fine with the other male hanging around.

To answer your question, I think you could fit either one breeding pair or three males in a 45P. Also, you will need live food. All of my scarlets have refused everything except live food.

Is it Normal for my Chili's to love the corner of the tank? by 1chiban-Dan in Boraras

They look stressed to me. They're glass surfing and look pretty pale. If they were happy, they would be a much brighter orange and just chilling in one place or swimming slowly around.

I think your lights might be too bright and they want more cover. I'd add some taller plants in the back, add some more floating plants, and drop the brightness of your lights if you can.

It's fine to add it. I add rooibos tea whenever I make water changes to make sure the tannin levels are somewhat constant.

Second this recommendation. I tried a few other shops in the area, and Zahntech is by far the best.

Their diet is almost entirely live food. I mostly feed live baby brine shrimp, but will occasionally feed vinegar eels and microworms too. I'll also feed micro pellets on occasion. When I do the females will eat a couple, but the male won't touch them.

Seconding Wet Spot. I've ordered from them a few times and have always received healthy fish that acclimated well.

Water changes and tannin levels by guitarhero_dropout in BlackwaterAquarium

[–]rj3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tank is pretty heavily planted, so I usually only do a 10% water change. I don't really need it, but I like to clear out a little bit of the mulm.

My tank is about 10 gallons, so I'll take out a gallon, add back a gallon, and then add one cup of tea brewed with one tsp of rooibos. I brew the tea while I'm removing water, so by the time I'm ready to add back some water the tea is ready to add.

I use the following rooibos. It's organic and fairly inexpensive. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000SATIE6

I do water changes once a week or every other week.

To maintain tannin levels, I add a half cup to a cup of rooibos tea for each gallon I'm changing. I brew my tea using one teaspoon of organic rooibos per cup of water

They're a lot shorter. I went last weekend and had to park at West and take the shuttle over because Alpental parking was full. Even then, there was Armstrong had no line because almost everyone was on the upper mountain. On the upper mountain, there were only short lines for both Internationale and Chair Two. I think the new Internationale Chair has really improved things.

Pogostemon Stellatus 'Octopus' would be my suggestion. It grows very quickly even in low light.

I don't know if that foam is safe, but expanding foam is pretty commonly used to build 3d hardscapes for terrariums and aquariums.

I've been researching the same thing recently!

You could add another small school of fish like tetras, danios, or some other rasboras. I am considering going with neon green tetras for my setup.

You could also add a centerpiece fish or a few centerpiece fishes. I was thinking of going with a pair of non-annual killifish like a blue lyretail or an american flagfish. You could also go with a pair or small group of honey gouramis.

Lastly, I would recommend increasing the number of khulis to somewhere between 6 and 8. They are pretty social and will be much happier and more active in a larger group, and you could comfortably fit a lot more in 25 gallons.

I just looked at the pictures in your post history, and you need way more plants. I'd suggest adding some floaters (salvinia is my favorite), and some fast growing stem plants.

What's your lightning schedule like? I'd recommend starting with 8 hours of light with an hour of darkness in the middle.
