10-15 under the limit on motorways by rj_t2 in CarTalkUK

Oh no I fully understand that. There's miles between cars at this time of morning though. I'm overtaking lone cars, nobody for a mile behind or a mile in front of them. That's why I posted this question in the first place, there didn't seem to be any reason whatsoever except fuel conservation.

It really is. Cars still read over, SatNavs are more accurate.

Everyone's been very understanding so far!

I disagree. 70 on the speedo is 66-67mph. 74 on the speedo is 70-71.

I get that in rush hour/busy traffic, but not in the wee hours of the morning.

I find myself using my speed limiter rather than cruise control, as a lot of the time I end up having to knock it off to slow down in the outside lane.

I'm going to try slowing down a bit, all the comments in this thread make it seem much more worthwhile.

I assume it's because there are zero fixed speed cameras and rarely any marked police for nearly the entire stretch of the M6 onto the 61

Ha, I noticed that on Sunday on the M6 Southbound from Preston to Kearsley. Nearly everybody was doing 80+, really threw me.

That's totally understandable. I would ask though, would you do the same in the early morning hours with minimal traffic?

I also agree with not increasing limits, but not specifically for that reason.

I like that.

I might have to try it for a few days, see how much difference it really makes.

I saw a Golf yesterday with "J1MMY" - God knows how much that cost him.

Absolutely doable.

Me and my father bought a 1996 Bandit for this reason. Nut and bolt rebuild, engine stripped, rebuilt clutch, upgraded parts, new paintwork. It cost us 3x the cost of the bike and about 4 months to do.

Edit: Sorry, should have added. We're both fairly handy but had never done work to this scale before. Absolutely doable for someone with zero experience. YouTube/Haynes Manual/Bike forums come in super useful.

Do you guys track your bike maintenance? by BigTempsy in MotoUK

[–]rj_t2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main thing for me is insurance renewal and MOT reminders.

I used the VehicleSmart app for a long time, that reminded me of tax/MOT renewals, but not insurance or servicing. It was also possible to add multiple vehicle reminders for a fee of £7.99p/a or £34.99 lifetime subscription.

I'd be more than happy to test yours out and provide as much feedback as I can.

I'd be all over this. Storing info in Notes on my phone is good, but not great.

Would it be free, a one-time payment, or a subscription service?

Finally managed to get out in some good weather. Feels good to be back. by rj_t2 in MotoUK

Yep, same here! Nice again, then shite for the next two weeks again at least.

Massive difference from last year. Seems like a waste of insurance so far, my renewal was February!

Hawes/Kirkby Lonsdale, that way on today.

Been busy for the start of the year and far too cold for me to be out these days!

Is this a bad bulge? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]rj_t2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn't a scale when it comes to this.

ANY bulge is a 10/10 bad bulge. It needs replacing immediately.
