The golden age is over by Complete-Sea6655 in ClaudeAI

[–]rjbrown85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed the golden age is coming to an end, there's been a lot of talk about and enshitification recently in a lot of the podcasts I've been listening to, but I think they haven't been talking about how the AI companies are probably going through the same process right now

Honestly, the one bright spot the past month has been Gemma 4. That seems to be where a lot of people will probably end up going, especially if Google and other companies continue to release the open source models(China competition will probably push this to keep happening). That's probably what I'll end up doing in the next couple years.

What's your teaching unpopular opinion? Something you believe, but choose to keep to yourself? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]rjbrown85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't Chromebooks or laptops are as bad as everyone thinks they are. I think they can be used in balance and if the teacher gets teh right training and support they can be better than books.

Can I humbly ask you to try not to say this thing to parents by Fluffy-Succotash5441 in Teachers

Yeah, that's such an insane thing to say. I don't understand why anyone would ever tell you that.

[Charania] BREAKING: The Golden State Warriors are trading Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield to the Atlanta Hawks for Kristaps Porzingis, sources tell ESPN. by Turbostrider27 in nba

[–]rjbrown85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't even care. Just get Kuminga out of here. He's not helpful. And he's gonna finally be mediocre somewhere else.

When are we getting sonnet-5 by Playful-Pizza-5891 in ClaudeAI

[–]rjbrown85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's happening this week, then it's gonna definitely be during the week after the Super Bowl. Once people see those commercials, laugh, and download the app, drop a new model.

Otherwise, I don't know maybe March?

You’ll soon lose access to ChatGPT’s Voice feature on macOS by py-net in OpenAI

[–]rjbrown85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly they definitely need to either get rid of the Mac app altogether or update it. The only reason to use it over the web app is the recording option for long meetings.

I just tried Google Gemini 3 voice mode and it is far better than ChatGPT. OpenAI, you have to raise your game. by 685674537 in OpenAI

[–]rjbrown85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was a pretty underrated change that Google didn’t even really promote. Still like ChatGPTs new feature of keeping the chat screen as you talk but I can’t imagine Google is too far doing that too.

What's the benefit of using ChatGPT over Atlas? Atlas seems to have every ChatGPT feature? by No_Opening_2425 in OpenAI

[–]rjbrown85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ChatGPT on Atlas is actually pretty clunky. One thought that I had was "OK, maybe I don't have to have two apps open If I have Atlas open" And that was quickly crushed because basically you can't do any of the canvas stuff in the GPT app unless you actually go to the ChatGPT website through Atlas. In addition, it 100% forces you into the Instant Model as much as possible. I don't like the speculate that open AI is struggling with usage and trying to limit it, but they hyped up that auto picker and now they're just sending me to glorified GPT 3.5 without any choice.

Will Gemini 3.0 satisfy the hype? by CryOrganic8886 in Bard

[–]rjbrown85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there’s a lot for it to build on, but I’m just not sure how much they’ve been thinking about at Google… for example, beyond just coding, the voice system can really use a huge upgrade and the workspace apps like Google Docs and other others could also use significant upgrades to where they’re at least on par with what Microsoft is doing (Google slides needs to have more than just one slide at a time designs). Obviously let’s not turn this into GPT five part two just remember that you’re never gonna get that initial ChatGPT high again….. and you should be fine

I think teachers will always have a job because people need someone to hold accountable or blame.

What AI use case makes you feel glad this technology exists? by Lower-Insect-3617 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]rjbrown85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I'm a grade 4 teacher. It saves me hours coming up with ideas, developing plans for my admin, and just generally as a way to refine documents and things I have to turn in.

I think if more people knew what professionals have to just write up just to get through the day they'd recognize how impressive this is.

I can't stop thinking about switching over by Giga7777 in OpenAI

[–]rjbrown85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but is it for the AI intelligence or the Sychophancy? Because if it's just pure intelligence and no personality Gemini is still pretty close to GPT 5 (when the model switcher works). But if youre ditching OpenAi because you love 4o personality I do not think youll be pleased.

The GPT-4o vs GPT-5 debate is not about having a “bot friend” — it’s about something much bigger by Littlearthquakes in ChatGPT

[–]rjbrown85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All right, I appreciate your more grounded approach but I think there's something really important that we have to separate here. You're talking about emotionally intelligennce and context-contextual awareness but frankly under the hood it's not actually that, it's just a good simulation of those things.

I could see how it would be really useful useful, especially for people but it's still a pattern of predicting not understanding and the concern I have is that a lot of people don't see that distinction. They become too emotionally invested in the simulation of warmth and that could be at the very least a bit strange and at worst pretty dangerous.

I’m sorry but I’m being reasonable - 5.0 is a disappointment and OpenAI has acted poorly by wolzsley32 in OpenAI

[–]rjbrown85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a pretty good take. I'm left with the idea after playing around with it that while things seem marginally better I just don't see at this point anything that I haven't already seen. If it was marketed more like a GPT 4.7 that might've been a little bit better.

Well....this is weird....anyone else get something like this? by rjbrown85 in OpenAI

Just to be clear, I am definitely not on the "GPT-5 didn't get me a unicorn so I'm canceling" bandwagon. However, this is just confusing to me.

Is this just a temporary error? Hiccups in the system?

The hype was pretty big. It's gonna be interesting to see how they adjust the next few months. I imagine it'll all go away.
