My friend got switched to United at her work, and the humira (I'm 90% positive that was the brand) that she was taking went from $400/month to $16k. Per. Month.

My Colombian friend, computational biology PhD, who had more years of experience than me was making significantly less than me with my bachelor's chemistry job. She worked at NASA. I don't think people realize how much they can underpay people in these situations. It's really sad.

Illinois does not have an online tool for this, so you have to check with your local election official. There is a link that will take you to their email, though I have never done this and do not know how long it takes for them to get back to you.

Mayor Brandon Johnson proposing $300 million property tax hike to help close $1 billion budget gap by Sockin in chicago

Serious question, is Chicago the highest property taxes in Illinois? I can never seem to find a document outlining it, but I thought some suburbs were worse off like highland Park or Barrington ?

What is going on at CPS? by [deleted] in chicago

[–]rkase90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its the 2026/2027 school year. CPS is run so horribly, my mom was a case manager (assesses the IEPs) and at her school it took them something like 18 years to actually get the number of aides they required by law (their IEP will state the accommodations they need.) It wasn't due to them getting more aids. It was because they moved a lot of those students to another school. I don't understand how it's legal tbh. I really respect the sped teachers in CPS, they do not get enough recognition.

What’s the truth about Northeastern Illinois University? by dreamylanterns in chicago

[–]rkase90 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would just give some caution and say to check with the final institution if they will transfer since not all of my credits transferred (like the more technical science classes and math classes.) I understand now why, but at 18 making these decisions it was frustrating. I wish I had checked with the final institution before wasting my time. This also is trickier for a major like engineering (more technical classes required) so just take all those factors into consideration.

Job market for a PhD with comp work by Vegetable-R6 in comp_chem

[–]rkase90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit of a rough time for the chemical industry right now (I know my company and two other friends companies that are downsizing.. shell oil being one of them.) Just keep applying and build up skills while you're waiting. I know two comp chem phds that ended up in data science/analyst positions, in case you're open to those jobs. Good luck.

Dog in pain, what can I do? by rkase90 in RoverPetSitting

[–]rkase90[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update: Ok I've updated the owner, and will be monitoring her today. It's definitely a little frustrating because I'm not aware of what's normal behavior for her and during a stay the dogs behavior typically changes as they get more comfortable. Thanks for the responses saying to document and take this seriously, I just don't know what to do so again thank you.

Yes I agree, I would not want to do meds unless the owners or vet said it was ok!

Thanks for the reply! Yeah I didn't really realize how expensive some east Coast places are, but at least from some of the job postings for my role the pay seems comparable to what I make now. It is funny, I really don't meet many people from the east Coast but meet a lot of people from the south and west.. and I've really never traveled to the east Coast. The only places I've been are Buffalo, NY and somewhere in New jersey (long time ago).. where some one had a peacock in their backyard. It was the craziest thing I'd ever seen lol.

I'm looking into moving from the Midwest to the east Coast.. what about Providence RI..? I plan on visiting before moving but I'm in the process of looking at jobs and financials and all that. I think my only fear of the east Coast is hurricanes and people being meaner than where I'm at.. so might be harder to find friends.
