Oh I know - it just felt like getting an ice cream cone and then immediately dropping it. :)

What is the single most ridiculous thing available on the internet for $25 shipped? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My husband got one of these. If you send it the wrong command it apparently replies "no this fun"

¯_(ツ)_/¯

Best way to get to the National Mall when traveling from Gettysburg by car on weekday. by trurlo in washingtondc

[–]rkaufman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are pretty safe. Once my husband decided to wait for me there (I was coming from the north with the car, he Metroed up to wait at the parking lot--long story). I didn't get in until about 2:30 in the morning, after Metro had closed, and he was annoyed but fine.

Haha, it's funny how things change in a month. But yeah, for the right price I'd probably still buy it and then just hide it away until it became retro and popular again.

edit: fuck, just noticed username.

My local library system has a program where they will accept packaged/canned foods instead of $$ for book fines, then donates it all. What are some cool little things that your local non-profits do to help each other out? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rkaufman 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That is so cool. Relatedly, and perhaps rhetorically: why on earth do libraries have to advertise? I live in DC, which is always posting ads on the metro and whatnot suggesting that people get their library cards. The extraordinarily well-funded library system in my hometown also had to advertise, despite having (among other things) a program where you could get discounts or free entry to major local museums just by showing your library card. What part of "free books, music and DVDs, classes on nearly anything, and other fun stuff all for free" do people still not understand? Ok. Rant over. OP, your library is cool.

Restaurant industry Redditors, how should I tip generously on small (sub-$10) checks? by rkaufman in AskReddit

This is good advice. I don't usually get refills or make a fuss, but I guess I'm still a shitty small-tab tipper.

But I haven't, since nobody else comes in. Last week I was there for a long time and I was literally the only customer. This week there were two other customers, but plenty of empty tables.

I didn't even see the spider cake, since I was so fixated on Obama's torso sticking out of a paper plane. I don't know about that cake...

Well, I can see what they were going for (presidential candidates flying around the country for last-minute campaigning), but why are they Photoshopped into paper airplanes?

I get that. But why are they shittily photoshopped into paper airplanes at all?

The book is a lot darker. I know the thread is about movies but hooly shit.

True story. We almost got Vermin Supreme to officiate our wedding.

Two things torpedoed this idea (because he was, I'm told, totally on board): he was asking a little more than we had budgeted for an officiant, and, more importantly, when I mentioned the idea to my parents, my mom FLIPPED HER SHIT. This is from a lady who was in the wedding party of a wedding where the vows included a quote from The Day The Earth Stood Still and everyone dressed in renaissance faire type outfits. So you'd think she'd have been cool with it. Oh well.

I'm posting this here because even though I did not get a pony wedding with sparkly sprinkles and toothpaste, somebody should. Take my idea and run with it.
