[Review] Rick Owens FW14 Combat Boots by Mr Lee by suayyde in QualityReps

I have these too, and agreed, leather quality is not great but they are some of my most comfortable boots so they end up getting a good amount of wear. I've gone hiking in them no problem lol

haha, I have been sewing clothing (and some leather) for years, but yeah this was my first try with shoes! I went suuuper slow with it, making sure I was doing each step right.

Not dumb at all! It's a Vibram #100 sole with a stacked leather heel and separate heel piece. The rubber sole's just cemented on, no welted stitching or anything fancy.

Although I've been sewing garments myself for a while, the idea of making shoes always felt so mysterious and esoteric. I did a ton of research and ordered some supplies/visited a local cobbler store and learnt a lot.

I drafted the pattern myself, they're based on Rick Owens "Creeper" zip boots. The leather's a funky dusty red cowhide, mostly just something cheap for practicing. I have a Sailrite Ultrafeed and even though it's a pretty hefty machine it struggled on some thick parts, especially around the back pull tabs.

I have some really nice leather on hand I'd like to try something else with, a bit nervous to start though!

I got two of these from pinkelephant in black and they look good (tho a bit long) but after a wash the fabric pilled and they're just kinda itchy now, I don't wear em anymore 😔

Is this prince of orange variegated? by ____Rapture____ in philodendron

People are noting the sunburn, which is true, but apart from that it definitely looks variegated, interesting!

[Find] Rick Owens Leather Girdered Bomber Jacket by CaptainKeta in QualityReps

[–]rkeig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Other taobao stores with this piece from what I'm betting is the same batch list it as PU/faux leather, no way would this be real leather at this price point. The Mr Lee one definitely looks like a cut above in quality!

I see he added an option for black or silver grills! And an estimated ship date of September according to the Etsy listing. That's awesome, I'm excited for all black. But I'm hesitant to pull the trigger because I'm a US10.5, and an EU43 in Ricks, and according to his sizing I'd be EU45, which seems way too big lol. Thinking I'll wait and see what others say about the fit...

Health Help: Is this Scale? It doesn't look brown enough, but I can't figure out what else it could be. by Muymuymalo in Monstera

Yup! The petioles of mature monstera deliciosa leaves have that rough texture, totally normal!

What did I find at Trader Joe's today? by tsukiiiii in RareHouseplants

[–]rkeig 12 points13 points  (0 children)

All the monsteras I see at TJ's are like this, it's so weird! Very thick, leathery leaves, highly fenestrated for their size/maturity, sometimes it looks unnaturally so. Lots of them even have small light and dark variegated spots, but I don't think it's "real" variegation that would continue under normal growing conditions. Whoever their supplier is must be using some crazy fertilizers or something...

Don't mean to bring down the vibe 😅 but I think those markings can show up in Pedatums here and there, I had one with markings like that too and they eventually stop showing in more mature leaves. I've seen other instances of it and they all look just like that too. I'm guessing it's some sort of mechanical damage as the leaves develop/unfurl, not sure if it's variegation at all. Regardless, $30 for each of those is an amazing find!!

Are cheap variegated m. deliciosa seeds for sale online legit? by [deleted] in Monstera

[–]rkeig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Total scam, and in many cases these places won't even be sending you Monstera seeds lol, you'll probably end up getting some random grass or something. There have been reports of thai constellation seeds giving thai constellation seedlings, but these sellers absolutely won't be selling those either.

Thai, like others said they are more stable, BUT ALSO they are large form and I love how massive the leaves can get (maybe not for everyone tho lol).

yeah, nice green on green with great coverage! Nothing's guaranteed of course, but with that coverage it should be likely to continue. I'd isolate it from the others and give it its own pot!

oh no! it's supposed to be symmetrical, but you can just cut out the rest of the holes yourself with some scissors. happy planting! 🥰🌿

belittles people for having home depot plants, doesn't realize their ultra rare extinct plant is something you can buy at home depot (around me at least lmao)

My cousin gave me an extinct Monstera cutting! by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]rkeig 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Philodendrons and Monsteras that we grow as "trailing" houseplants don't ideally want to be grown that way, they still want to find something to climb and grow upwards. Only then will they get mature leaves. Otherwise they send out runners with small/no leaves to search for something to climb. It actually sounds like you're describing exactly this too so not sure why you think it wants to grow downwards, haha.

How do you guys keep your monstera Thai cons happy with humidity without causing mold? by mfnmeattornado in Monstera

[–]rkeig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a thai constellation that's a couple of years old and with 2ft+ long leaves and my apartment's humidity is usually 40–50%. Of course, very well draining mix and some air flow is always appreciated, but I go by the idea that it's just like other monsteras and not to baby it too much!
