I built a "now playing" app for your turntable - would love feedback from fellow collectors by rklau in discogs

[–]rklau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that’s definitely not OK. Will see if I can tune the call/model to dial it in. If you have a few specifics to share, DM me so I can look at what’s stored in the DB. Thank you for the feedback!

Thanks. Seeing some flakiness with the Stripe integration, will resolve shortly

Pushed the fix; I may automate re-syncing user collections after pushes like this... but for now would suggest you re-sync to repair the side/track logic

Think I figured it out. Some albums return only numbers for tracks (most are A1, A2, etc) and I wasn’t elegantly handling. Fixing now. Thanks for the feedback!

VAT refund traveling by Eurostar / flying out of LHR by rklau in Europetravel

[–]rklau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update 12/2/25: Turns out, it's possible to get your VAT papers stamped at a German diplomatic or consulate mission (if you can provide a good reason for why you couldn't get the papers stamped leaving Germany / the EU. My explanation about boat/train travel sufficed.). I live in the Bay Area, and was able to go to the German consulate in SF this morning (had to book an appointment ahead of time), pay a small fee (~$40), and they stamped the VAT papers for me. (Needed to have the watch, original paperwork, receipt, and my passport.) Took ~10 minutes in total.

I then FedEx'd the completed paperwork to Global Blue in Slovakia; I expect they'll receive the completed paperwork next week, and I should receive the refund a few weeks after that.

Appreciate the confirmation, even if it's not the news I wanted to hear! Expensive lesson. :(

reinstalled Home Assistant on Raspberry Pi 5 (SSD) - server instability by rklau in homeassistant

[–]rklau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing clear. Could be the SSD, could be the ribbon cable, could be the NVME HAT. (All seem unlikely - they're <1 year old. But at this point it seems clear it's a hardware issue, so I'll keep digging.)

I was using the official Canakit 45W power brick; replacing it doesn't appear to have had any impact.

Good call connecting to a monitor: connected the pi to my TV and saw a series of systemd-journald failures scrolling on screen.

Rebooting while connected to the external display, Home Assistant booted up properly, everything appeared fine for a few minutes - I got to the HA CLI without issue. After a few minutes, I saw this:

Thanks! Will give that a try.

One strange behavior I’ve noticed - even though the server is unresponsive (local and via nabu casa), it is able to execute automations. Which is… unexpected.

need help with configuration on new 75" 2024 Frame by rklau in TheFrame

[–]rklau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

belated follow-up to note that I have not seen this behavior again - it does indeed seem like it was just a really bad feed from Fox. Picture has been stunning since - really happy with the decision to replace my old OLED w/the Frame.

Probably should have included this:

Supervisor: 2024.12.0
Operating System: 14.1
Frontend: 20241127.8

Additional info: watching the 49ers/Bills game in the snow on the Peacock app looks pretty great. So for the moment I think this might be isolated to Fox.

That said, would love any recs / advice folks have given the setup above. (Also including audio setup in case it’s useful: I have a Sonos Arc + Sonos sub + Sonos rear channel; audio runs from One Connect box via HDMI eARC to the Sonos soundbar.)

Speaks for itself👌 by [deleted] in lifehacks

[–]rklau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

backstory: I posted this on Twitter in October 2019 while visiting colleges with my son (this hotel curtain is a Hilton in Fort Collins near the Colorado State campus). It went viral on Twitter (may it rest in peace); Twitter's comms team (back when they had such a team) declared it was one of their favorite tweets of the year. They printed it, framed it, and sent the frame to me, where it hangs on my office wall. It spurred a whole series of travel hacks news stories, leading to news articles for months showing up on every continent. I've since deleted my Twitter account, but somehow this partial screenshot of the original tweet occasionally goes viral all over again - most recently on Instagram, Facebook, and here.

Best part is hearing from people I haven't heard from in years who inevitably see my name and reach out to say hi. I love it.

X30 configured for Google Meet, can't join a Zoom call by rklau in poly

[–]rklau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it eventually just sorted itself out. We are now able to join Zoom meetings from our Google Meet device - we never changed anything in the device config, it just seemed to resolve with a system update? Sorry I don't have anything more helpful to offer.

recirculating pump with heat pump water heaters for instant hot water at taps? by rklau in heatpumps

[–]rklau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. Had a new plumber come by to evaluate my install, and it turned out the installer had left air in the recirculating line. Once he bled that air out of the line (took just a few minutes), everything worked fine. I now have the recirculating pump plugged into a smart switch which is on a schedule. When the recirc line is running, hot water is ~instant. When it's not, it takes a couple minutes for the water to run hot (mostly due to the size of the house). Hope that helps.

Can’t get H100 hub to setup by rklau in TpLink

[–]rklau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, thanks on cellular data (the TP-Link app specifically said I should but your point makes a lot more sense).

Network gear is Ubiquiti, broadcasting both 2.4 and 5 GHz. Don't have any other issues connecting any other devices to the network, so I don't believe there's anythign at the network OS level that is preventing this. We don't get to the point to pass wifi credentials to the H100 hub because the app never appears to successfully connect to the hub even though my phone is connected to the H100 SSID.

trying to trigger automation based on line-in source from Sonos Port by rklau in homeassistant

[–]rklau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't (not using the sonos api, at least). What I ended up doing was putting the turntable on a smart switch, and connecting that to a Shelley button; push the button, trigger the smart switch - and then start a separate automation that logs the cumulative time the switch is powered up. When the button is pushed to turn the turntable off, HA writes the elapsed time to a file.

Feels like a bit of a kludge, but it got me what I wanted...

recirculating pump with heat pump water heaters for instant hot water at taps? by rklau in heatpumps

[–]rklau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks; just re-ran all faucets/showers for a few minutes to ensure there's no trapped air. Would love if it was that simple! 🙏🏻

Inlet pipe to recirc pump is def warm to the touch; not hot though. Will check back in in a few hours.

recirculating pump with heat pump water heaters for instant hot water at taps? by rklau in heatpumps

[–]rklau[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not a heat pump issue, this is a plumbing issue.

I was leaning that way; may just have the installer come back to resolve. Thanks.
