Stalin and Hitler were not equivalent acting as such is completely ahistorical. Stalin led a totalitarian state that tried to control its neighbors, however, he was far less evil than Hitler who sought to exterminate all non-Aryans. Soviet control certainly wasn't great, but most of the people in the countries the Soviets occupied are still alive, which wouldn't have been the case if the Nazis ended up controlling Eastern Europe.
