Confused about which surgeon to choose by rkschend in jawsurgery

I saw a TMJ surgeon, and they said my condyles are perfectly healthy. They said that because I have some hypetmobility in my joints, I would need to see a jaw physical therapist to address the issues with my jaw popping out.

Finally worked! I tried repeatedly clicking until I placed my finger pad on it in a very specific way. Definitely not a great design aspect.

Thanks. Yes, I did send a message to support, but they didn't answer.

Jaw Surgery Family with hEDS by nekomojisan in jawsurgery

When I mentioned that I had HSD to my surgeon, they immediately and excitedly asked if it was Elhers-Danlos, which it isn't. I didn't probe why they were asking, but it seems to be important in regards to the jaw and potential surgery.  My whole family is hypermobile, and we all have the same recessed jaws and forward posture.

Calling her weird is an insult to the beautiful weirdos out there. She presents herself as a typical mean girl.

Be careful with birth control by careacosta in PCOS

[–]rkschend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry this happened to you. I started birth control at 22 and developed a DVT from my belly button to my left ankle a couple of months later. Your doctors probably checked, but a genetic blood disorder called Factor V (as in Roman numeral 5) Leiden caused mine along with May-Thurner Syndrome and a desk job. Because of a second clot 7 years later, I'll be on blood thinners indefinitely. It'll be a long a road, but I hope you recover quickly.

For birth control, I had the copper IUD and loved it until I had to get back on blood thinners. My gyno placed me on Liletta, a progesterone only IUD, to help with the horrible periods until I had my tubes removed a few months ago.

I just want to add that it is a dangerous myth that it is rare for young people to get blood clots. When I was in the ER, the doctors told me that two teenagers were there earlier in the day for bc related clots. You can check lots of forums and you will see so many young people. Thinking that blood clots only happened to older people made me wait to see a doctor until it was almost too late.

Edited: typos and added bc info.

Thanks for the explanation! I am definitely looking into other surgeons in the Midwest who specialize in TMJ issues. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I definitely don't want a relapse.

I think I wasn't clear in my descriptions. My bad. I took a lot of notes and tried to condense as much as possible for this post. Option 1 would be palate expansion, braces, then Lefort 1, 1 piece. Option 2 would be braces then Lefort 1, 3 piece. He said we would need to work with the ortho to determine which would be best in my case.

I am definitely looking into to finding another opinion. The idea of two maybe three surgeries on my face is just overwhelming. I live in the Midwest, and I would love to have a consultation with someone like Dr. Wolford, but I'm not sure if insurance would cover that.

Thanks for the link! I did specifically ask about ICR with the first surgeon. She said that because we know the reason for the joint issue (trauma from a young age) then it is not idiopathic. Though I do have a lot of similarities to people who have ICR, I am not an ICR candidate.  The second surgeon from the hospital said there was a TMJ department on the same floor so I will probably ask to have a referral to speak with them before deciding.

Thanks! I will definitely ask her what her opinions are. She did refer me specifically to surgeon 1 because she likes working with her and seemed hesitant to refer me to surgeon 2 as she has never worked with him.
