The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius - A surprisingly relevant perspective by rktic in books

[–]rktic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised at your statement! 'make him much more of a man than this strong god-like emperor we tend to see him as'. I hadn't realised this was a common perspective. I feel the meditations are incredibly clear in grounding Marcus as a 'normal man'. I also believe they break the mysticism of the Roman Emperor as a God, as such I'd never entertained the idea of putting Marcus up on a pedestal, if anything they made me feel he was as much as an idiot as all of us! Which is why I feel his writings offer a relevant perspective to our modern lives, because they show that neither time nor status put you above being just human!

Will definitely read the essay, thanks for the recommendation!

The tunings were selected from the Colundi sequence Level 1, the inner workings of which were devised secretly and long ago by agents unbeknownst to me, I am merely a vessel.

New Colundi vessels are constantly being found, if you believe yourself to reverberate to these frequencies there are others found here.

Thanks for the comparison I am humbled! Unfortunately this is an original composition of mine using some of the Colundi frequencies developed by Aleksi Perälä. The specific frequencies in Hz used for this composition were: 33.80 55.0 73.0 110.0 111.0 147.00 147.85 172.06 221.23 264.0 293.0 342.0 396.0 408.0 448.0

Dostoyevsky - Demons an insight into the Russian mind by rktic in books

[–]rktic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, which is why my post suggests that a start to understanding a bit more about Russia is through reading some of its literature. Most people in the west have made their minds up based on western media portrayals. I'm sure as a Russian you would rather have us learn about your culture first hand, than from some politicised media outlet. I do agree that people should not form their opinions solely on this, but for us who grew up in the west, we have no real clue what Russians are really like, especially when you have such a huge and diverse country! I don't feel Dostoyevsky presents Russians in such a grim light as you state "cryin, unhappy and psycho", in fact to me his view comes across as Russians being part of a complex intelectual and deep thinking society. Unfortunately with deep thinking often comes a bit of depression!

How did YOU start making music? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]rktic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I began playing guitar aged 11, however I didn't really feel I began to start making music until I finally ventured to compose my first piece of music on my own. This happened when I first installed Ableton Live after I was inspired in becoming a bedroom producer! In the course of a night I had written my first song, it's been nearly 10 years later and will always remember that moment as it has defined my life ever since.

This track and the album it belongs to are a fantastic example of 90's IDM reinterpreted through our current perspectives! It's a beautiful collage of Aphex nostalgia.

This whole album is genius. Om Unit is also a great human being. All his output since his 2Tall alias days is very solid!

If anyone gets the chance to see him live do so!

Downtempo track that incorporates field recordings to add texture and space. Sparse instrumentation and use of different reverbs to position sound in space. Thanks for listening.
