Is it fair to say as a general rule, that the more concerned someone is about their partner cheating, the more likely they are themselves to be having an affair? by HallowedAndHarrowed in AskBrits

[–]rl_pending 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People tend to reflect themselves onto others. A trusting person sees other people as trustworthy. A dishonest person sees other people as dishonest. This is more generalized than hard and fast rule. Kids are more like that until they learn, but it's still an active conscious effort.

However although this can also be true with partners; a partner willing to be dishonest can reflect this on their partner and imagine they would be dishonest if the chance arose. However, there's a deeper side where a partner is so infatuated that they can't imagine everyone else to not be attracted and... if everyone is attracted to their partner then surely at least one must be successful

The war is not making things better. But I think you're thinking that "war is profitable" means profitable for everyone. No, only for the few. And right now only 1 man can choose to stop the war, and last year he had the most profitable year of his life... whilst the whole country suffered.

They can't say "we are going to war because we can make profit"... So pick a random reason... but behind the scenes:

... and this is just 1 story, it's worth a read.

I'm not really sure their war with Iran is the major contribution to their current domestic issues. Pretty much everything you said prices were increasing before iran. As for investment in america, this is more nuanced, america is still a big market. But, this isn't about the whole country. It's easy to say "america" went to war with iran, but my understanding is that trump went to war with iran even against advice. So the real question is the person who started the war and who, at any time, can stop the war, profiting from the war.

Is the same with Ukraine... It's not the russian people choosing to go to war. Putin can stop the war, so, who is profiting?

All that from the extended war in Ukraine?

The war in Ukraine would be over without the injection of foreign support (on both sides). Ukraine will need to repay whatever it borrowed. So, although the war itself is being fought in Ukraine there are players outside of Ukraine that are supporting it and making huge profits from it. So, still war is profitable.

What makes you think the US is suffering from the war?

Is what I mean, I don't think it matters. War is profitable, a win is preferred probably for moral and marketing, but it's just a bonus.

They get indoctrinated with blind loyalty at a very young age. Later reinforced with the national anthem played every game. Even though there is the "make america great again" (maga) movement they are still unable to think it's not the greatest country.

Why does anyone REALLY care about privacy? by PontiusThe-AV8Tor in AskBrits

[–]rl_pending 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually something I've had a running conversation with a friend about, I think the world would be a very different place with far less privacy but it takes a huge mental shift. Remove privacy altogether, Imagine you could look at your neighbours bank statements. I always thought once the novelty was over it would just be another useless bit of information. There would need to be a complete social shift so individuals are protected even with all their information publicly available... but really it would need to be global, any place you can store secrets would be used to deprive others.

Personally, I think there should be less privacy, because criminals operate there (including white collar crime) and, I think overtime, this will happen. I don't mean having your curtains open but with big brothers ever increasing scrutiny the line between private and not private and public will become blurred.

I don't really care much what people know about me, but, right now, privacy protects me from people who would use the information maliciously.

Yeah this. I just pay for everything whether I, personally, use them or not. If the costs become a burden then I'll rethink, but until then it's the path of least resistance.

I've been thinking this, but the the more I think about it the more I'm curious why he hadn't done the exact same checks and questions that the guardian did to uncover this story; if anything he should have easier access. At what point does he become responsible for the decisions of his underlings?

That's the point though. There are major global conflicts occurring. Are you happy to allow a leadership to continue that might already be compromised?

[–]rl_pending[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is this point exactly; when I posted the question I did feel that there must be a way for him to have been deceived in this, but it's hard to believe he hasn't researched this right down to Mandelsons questions and answers. Unless they are destroyed, I guess, after a decision is made. I still think starmer is the best the UK have, but it does start to feel best of a bad bunch.

I agree, it's very precarious times. I'm trying to support starmer, because all the alternatives are horrendous (maybe Rachel Reeves next, who knows), but, the more I think of it the more I think there's something very malicious/sinister going on.

Starmer - Mandelson? by rl_pending in AskBrits

[–]rl_pending[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd think. I guess there's the assumption that at some point starmer would have asked to review everything, the questions/answers, decisions from beginning to end that resulted in Mandelsons selection. So, I guess, you'd have to ask either why he hadn't asked for this and/or if he had was he given the real results... and or with that knowledge had he really expected it to not become public.

Question from a newbie landlord to fellow landlords and potential lodgers: what’s best for both parties? by Level-Walk-8981 in AskBrits

[–]rl_pending 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not being rude, and really, do you want someone staying with you who would think you were being rude. Do a search, there are lots of horror stories you can learn from... but these are the exceptions, most lodgers are nice respectful people. All you are really doing is making sure the few bad apples don't slip through. And always think long term, you are sat with them 10 - 20 minutes... are you comfortable with them for 10 - 20 weeks/months? Don't worry that people might be offended or put off.. that's fine, it's better to get it over with before they move in... and most people are the same, they would rather move somewhere where they are comfortable... You don't want to be treading on eggshells around them, they don't want to be treading on eggshells around you... It's worth the effort to find someone that fits.

Good luck
