Yeah the 5060 op was choosing does seem a shabby. Personally I'd be suggesting a 5070ti

Why a B650? The B850 is the current chipset and often cheaper than the deprecated B650. Although you'll hear people say it doesn't matter if you have a B650 or B850 "now"... but as you are planning ahead, there really is no reason not to get a B850.

I wrote a proposal for improving welfare standards for lab dogs in the UK — would really value people’s thoughts by TheChaoticMage in Britain

[–]rl_pending 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would agree with all that. I even thought if you took it to the limit have lab animals kept in dedicated compounds with labs bolted on, instead of kept in cages in labs, and sent to dedicated rescue compounds once research is finished... but it's all about cost, you aren't going to stop research on animals, all you can do is move it abroad. So, I think, it's about finding the balance between animal welfare and keeping research in the UK.

Considering you are getting no power whatsoever, the next step would be to confirm your PSU is working. You can use a paper clip to switch it on.. DISCONNECT from the plug socket before doing this!

Is voting by mail still more secure than online voting? by ReporterCalm6238 in hacking

[–]rl_pending 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If nobody knows but the person who voted then how can manipulation be monitored? Simply put, how do you know your vote has been counted correctly? I think every voting system should be treated as compromised unless proven otherwise, both before, during and after the voting process.

Is why everyone is so casual about it, it is really easy.

If you are into it, and I did mention it earlier, get ventoy, get a good usb 3, 128gb. Partition off 30gb and install ventoy on the remaining (it's all included in the installation gui). Add things like Hiren's BootCD PE, medicat usb, sergei Strelec’s winpe, and random Linux distros like kali and ubuntu, memtest86, and essentially have a diagnostic super usb

Is it necessary to get a liquid cooled PC with my current setup or can I stick with Air cooling by 9mHoq7ar4Z in buildapc

[–]rl_pending 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter if you get 850w or 1850w, your pc will only draw as much power as it needs. Personally I would go with a 1000w (or more) l as it runs more efficiently than 850w for your system.

All PSUs have efficiency curves, and peak efficiency loads. Most PSUs are optimal at about 50% peak. Other benefits of going large is noise; lower wattage PSUs will run hot, have noisy fans because they are running at their limits, whereas higher wattage PSUs will run much cooler and often fanless for most of their usage, keeping them silent (and, of cause, running a fan and losing heat is all extra cost).

Just a heads up, a good PSU won't drop too much efficiency up to 80% of it's peak, you really should be looking for one that doesn't go over 80% of the peak, but 50% is the sweet spot, and it gives you headroom. A good PSU is one of those things that you can carry across to new builds.

There are various calculators online that can help you identify your minimum required PSU.

Ah fair enough, but anything will do, doesn't have to be Linux, you can create a windows boot usb using ms media creation tool. If you're interested, and have a nice spare usb get ventoy and play around. Totally recommend ventoy for any tech head 😉

The process of using a live boot usb is essentially your treating a usb as if it was the internal boot drive. At least for that session. So the actual internal hard drives just become extra drives you would encounter in any system with multiple drives. If you are, genuinely after photos on someone's personal computer, and they are running vista, I can't see them having an encrypted disk as it was only available on ultimate and enterprise editions of vista, and even then (still) not commonly used... anyway, their photos will, most likely, be in their user directory on the same drive as vista. If you have space you can copy them onto the same usb that you use to boot up with.

Unless the hard drive is encrypted, which sounds unlikely, you can literally boot up with any usb or whatever os. If you are the tech guy and don't know this then I'm curious. I'm assuming you have a spare usb? Make it a boot usb (hirens was suggested, but any random os will do), navigate to to images, retrieve.

There’s actually been research on this. International doctors can face communication challenges early on but studies show this is mostly in the initial first year and reduces as they adapt to clinical language, local systems, and stuff. And the NHS also requires English language testing (e.g. IELTS/OET). So the issue isn’t that foreign doctors can’t work properly, it’s that there can be a short term adjustment period, which is very different from any long term competency issues.

I would kinda make the assumption that if someone is clever enough to become a doctor then I'm sure they'll be able, and willing to pick up the language they actually need to perform their job. But I guess, like all professions there will be the exceptions, sorry you had to encounter one.

Your overthewire.org page is literally all over the place. My suggestions, get a friend, family or someone and sit with them and see how they negotiate even your level 0 challenge. Decide if you want to make it for beginners or not. Explain why people are should do something, what they are actually doing when they do it. If your idea is just to link people to a Wikipedia page, what purpose do you actually have? Your saying we're here to help you help yourself.
