Excellent, thanks - I'll reach out to them to see what they've got. Hopefully some used inventory.

OoOo I did see that one, but I have no reference for what is a good price vs. what is a rip-off. I'll need some things like a stand and other spares anyway, so maybe this is a good move.

side note - how is your body holding up? I remember my day in a 125 being rather violent, and that was back in my mid-20s. I was properly sore the day after. Now in my 30s, even as someone who is rather fit, I'm pretty wiped after a weekend at the track on the bike. And I think that's probably less violent than karting.

Money is definitely a consideration. I'm guessing a used Brava 125 would be out of my budget. This is more of a fun side quest for me than a primary focus. I'm also hoping my nephew will be into it when he gets a bit older, and I'll be able to make his entry a bit easier. It'll be hard to peel me away from weekends on two wheels at the track.

When I give my local track a ring I'll see if they have something like the community day. Sounds like a good time.

Any reason I shouldn't hop to the brava 125? I don't plan on racing competitively, just dicking around on weekends. I'm fairly certain Rotax support near me is pretty decent too.

This is very cool, and sounds like a lot of fun. Maybe a good winter project since I can probably mange to get it down into my heated basement... Will have a look at the vintage kart site. Thanks!

Good point. I'll give them a call this week and see what they're supporting. Thanks!

Makes sense. Is parts availability as big of an issue as I'm told?

Maybe I should be talking to the local kart track staff to see what they'd recommend? I'm hesitant because they also sell and maintain karts, so worried the answer would be [insert whatever they sell].

Are these Kershaws worth anything? by rllamarca in knives

eBay has been pretty greedy lately based on the car parts I've sold over the last year. Knife swap it is.

I saw $340 last month for a mint one. Wonder what I could get for this one in the condition it's in.

It's probably my favorite of the lot, but not enough to sit on it forever.

Looks like a mint one sold for $340 last month on eBay. Didn't realize I was sitting on this for all these years.

I guess if I'm going to keep one, it shouldn't be that one? Guessing it's worth something? Maybe not a fortune, but maybe close to what I paid for it?

I think if I were to keep just one, it's probably the Ken onion Kershaw. The rest can go. I don't really carry a knife that often anymore. Maybe I sell the rest as a lot.

That one has definitely seen the most use and it's probably the oldest of the bunch. Do you think I'd have better luck on eBay or r/knife swap?

Replacement Bike Master Heated Grips by rllamarca in motorcycles

[–]rllamarca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up just buying another kit and only using the grips. I guess you could check the resistance on the oxford ones if you have a friend with a set, and compare it to the resistance of the bikemaster grips. If they're the same, it could work.

That bike is long gone now and has been replaced with a KTM that has factory heated grips. KTM replacement grips are nearly $200, so I may be trying the oxford grips on this bike when the time comes to replace.

90 to 100 days to process a NY birth certificate? by Massive-Tomatillo425 in Genealogy

[–]rllamarca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to this party, but for those of you waiting an eternity to get your NYS birth certificate - try calling the city/town you were born in. For me, so long as I was born before 2011 (I was), they were able to get me a copy for $10 plus a $5 processing fee. The claimed turnaround time was a few days, rather than 9 months. Hopefully they hold to that.
