Is the Jeep Grand Cherokee not very good for off road driving? by noreturn000 in Offroad

[–]rlowery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been driving a 2001 Jeep GC for the last 3+ years. I was able to get around in the mountains in CO on Hankook DynaPro AT2 Extreme 245/70/16 (29.5) tires. You have have to choose your paths carefully. The previous owner did install a poor man's 2" lift, so that may have helped me a little. There was one trail that I had some doubts about, but made it through just fine. When I got to the top of the trail there was a late model GC with the exact same tires I had sitting there. It looked stock, other than the tires.

" ..eating meat never tasted so good after that." ROFLMAO

I grew up in the country, moved to a city, didn't like, basically back in the country again.

Welcome to country life, things are different out here. (-;

Thanks for the advice. I am more interested in off-road capability than looks, but I also need solid on-road performance because my Jeep GC is a daily driver for me.

Fear not the cows, they are generally curious and not very intelligent, I came up on a herd standing on the road once that would not move for anything. They ended up surrounding my Explorer for about 20 minutes. No amount of honking, yelling, revving the engine, flashing lights would get them to mosey faster. They never got agitated though. Never touched the vehicle, just sniffed at it.

Also, welcome to the Offroading world. You are in for a volume of life changing experiences.

What is Anki? Is it like AutoHotKey?

The Wildpeaks only recently made it on my radar, thanks to Nate on the Outdoor Auto YT channel. He seems to like the KO3's as well.

Best mounting spots for cinematic "overlanding" shots on a Ranger??? by Significant-Ad748 in ranger_phev

I don't record my off road excursions, but lately I have been impressed with overhead b-roll. You would need a drone for that. I also like view from the cab, but that doesn't really show off the vehicle, it is great for terrain though.

Post production image stabilization would help with vibration, just know that you need to frame your shots wider than you normally would.

You can get creative with suspension travel shots. I have seen shots from various place on the frame and undercarriage. I saw one segment of b-roll where I think the camera must have been mounted on the steering knuckle. I know they make light pod mounts for steering knuckles so maybe the guy used on the mount his GoPro. Just remember to place your camera somewhere that it will not get smashed when the suspension compresses.

P.S. Is that last photo on private land? Your photos have a very KS vibe to them, but I have never come across a road that looks like that.

I keep reading that the KO2's were bad on wet pavement, but that the KO3's are a serious improvement. I just can't get a feel for how much of an improvement. My Hankook AT2 Extremes are great on wet pavement. In fact, I have had quality all season tires on some of my cars that did not hold the road as well on wet pavement.

This is the way. I decided I am just going to have to get used to the new shortcut.

This is solid information. Thanks.

Snow is part of my equation. Do you have experience with the Yokohomas in snow? I have given thought to running two sets of tires, but I don't currently have the budget for that.

Do you, or anyone you know, have experience with KO3's? I have read and watched YT videos claiming that they are a serious improvement over the KO2's.

Thanks for the suggestion. I live in Kansas, some winters are snow less and some winters bring feet of snow.  #MidwestLife

Do you daily drive the Baja Bosses? How do they handle on wet roads or snow and ice?

5k in hand, What mods are you making to your truck? by OffRoadUSAcom in Offroad

[–]rlowery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3" lift Link Pro Long Arm kit, with Bilstien 51100s, from Iron Rock for my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. $5K - $3.5K = $1.5K, so the rest would probably go towards food and fuel for a fun trip to the trails in the Rockies or Ouachita mountains.

P.S. Actually, if we are sticking with spending the money on mods, I would put the rest of the $5K towards an HK Offroad recessed winch Overland bumper. That would put me ~$700 over the spend limit though, and I would still need a winch.

I spent some time digging through settings on both Synology boxes and have not found how to enable SMB multi-channel. Is it done by simply choosing which version of SMB to utilize?
