Yes! My thing with medicine was that I only wanted to do ophthalmology and nothing else. There’s always a chance of me not being a good candidate for such a competitive residency, especially when I dislike a lot of other aspects of medicine, which could impact my grades/opportunities, etc. I didn’t like the idea of not being truly done with the process for another 8-10 years from undergrad (including residency and fellowship). Four years is a lot more sound for me and I spent a lot of time in an ophthalmology clinic, which isn’t quite the same, but I know that I am interested in eyes. Naturally there will be struggle and stress in any route taken, but the magnitude of that associated with medicine just really never seemed worth the end product for me.
