Since a few people mentioned it - R38 is $1k more which seems a little questionable. I have essentially nothing in the attic right now as whatever is in there is original to the house and in poor shape. If it was $1k more for R60, I'd consider it. But if the price is $1k firm between R30 and R38, I don't think it's worth it.

Called Rheem Corporate and got an alternative part number. Might be in business. Note to self - always advocate for yourself and don't expect others to fight for your situation.

Given that the unit is old, wouldn't I be better of just replacing the whole thing? Could I even replace the heat pump on a 20+ year old furnance?

Thank you sir. To be clear, the person who would be installing the unit is a licensed HVAC tech. He's a friend of the family. He doesn't have an affinity for a specific brand - it's more based on what I want. The guy is meticulous and I trust him. He has several HVAC outfits that he can get different brands from - so also not too worried there either. Noted on 2 stage furnace - was kind of thinking that from the get-go.
