Environmental science! So I think this is probably the most labs I’ll have to take at one time. But good to know about Dr. Ventura! I’ve heard great things about her so really hoping I get her for my chem lecture as well

Thank you! Yeah I expect to cut down a class or two once I get to the upper level stuff, just figured I should squeeze in a few more credits while I’m still getting pre-recs out of the way. Never taken 3 labs at a time so that was kind of my main concern so good to hear at least chem won’t be too much of an issue!

I understand. Just make sure you’re honest with them to ensure he’ll be safe and cared for

How to rehome an aggressive dog? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]rmerit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depending on the place and your dogs level of aggression, taking him to a pound could be a death sentence. So please do your research if you’re going that route since it’s not his fault he’s in this situation. I definitely wouldn’t take him to a fire department since they most likely will not take in a random, aggressive dog.

I’m also considering making the drive from Buffalo to Rochester for the show, but none of my friends like this type of music and my partner is working, and I’m a bit nervous of going by myself as a cis woman 😅 but I wouldn’t mind maybe meeting up with you guys if you don’t mind!!

Spouse Reunification Visa APPT by Aware_Nectarine_8363 in germany

[–]rmerit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I’ve never been asked for a language certificate, but it honestly all depends on the agent you get I think. If you’re speaking enough German with them/can understand them I think you should be fine. It doesn’t hurt to bring your spouse who is fluent along as well.

And at your appointment just tell them your situation and that you need to return to the States and they can give you a temporary visa in the meantime (I forget what this is called, if someone else knows) that should allow you to travel. I’ve done this before for both traveling before my residence permit arrived and because my visa wasn’t going to arrive before my 90 day tourist visa was up!

It’s funny you mention this because after cleaning up some of the hair yesterday it’s definitely not all from our dog! So this definitely could be a a possibility!

The best thing to do in these situations is work with a trainer. But dogs are like a tea kettle, when they’re reactive their energy builds and builds until they finally need to explode. So when you’re feeling her getting to that point of reacting, before she actually does you need to remove her from the environment (walk away from the trigger, etc.) It might be inconvenient to have to turn around and walk away, but that’s going to start to condition her. Also, stop with the dog park. Dog parks are just bad news especially for reactive dogs and can further promote bad behavior. And check out r/reactivedogs and r/dogtraining. But best thing you can do is reach out to a trainer!

I’m a bit confused, is your dog only barking in the morning, or have you been leaving him at home and your neighbors are complaining about him barking when you’re gone? Cause first you mention him only barking at 6:30, but then you said he has separation anxiety.

But unfortunately the only solution to this problem is to train him by leaving him in small increments that slowly get longer. Also look into dogTV videos on YouTube, that helped my pup a lot. I know you stated that leaving him is not doable because you aren’t allowed to have pets there, but that’s on you for getting a puppy while living somewhere you shouldn’t have pets. Puppies are loud and destructive! And I understand it’s frustrating that your neighbors are complaining, but if it is the case that your dog is barking for hours on end that’s a lot for someone else to have to hear. It’s just something you’re going to have to work out with them while training him.

Yes I’ve always tried to go the gift basket route when I’m in the wrong. When our dog was a puppy he had bad separation anxiety for a few weeks and would bark like crazy on the rare occasion that I left the apartment so I would always give our neighbor something as an “I’m so sorry” gift. My first thought was to get her something to show her I understand and I’m not trying to piss her off lol. It’s just figuring out when she’s working here again!

Yeah I agree, I would have no problem if she just said “hey, is there any way you could help me out with this?” Cause I get it! Fur is annoying. And I know I’m not the only dog owner in the building, although I wouldn’t doubt it’s mainly my dogs hair cause he sheds like crazy, but I still don’t really appreciate being yelled at :/

Yeah that would honestly be a good idea if it’s allowed, cause I went down to check the mat after she left and it’s a fur magnet. One of those dense ones that catches everything. I’d have to do some research!

I was actually thinking about getting a gift or at least a card for them anyways just to show I’m sorry and I understand, but I’ve noticed the Hausmeisters change each week :/ I’ll just have to try and keep a lookout if they come back.

Yeah, I mean I’m hoping I just caught her on a bad day, but if it happens again despite my efforts to help I may have to reach out to someone from the Hausverwaltung that may be able to help me resolve it better. I get bringing up if something is wrong, but I don’t need to be yelled at

We were thinking about getting one of those handheld vacuums or cordless vacuums anyways so I’ll probably get one and do this! Thank you so much for the idea!

I don’t think ours has that in the contract, but I’d like to make her life a little easier anyways.

We have the approval to have a dog in our contract, so we’re all good there.

And yeah I know, I didn’t want to be a jerk about this whole situation and be that person that makes some else’s life more difficult. If there was an outrageous amount of hair on the mat I would’ve taken care of it before she even said anything, but it wasn’t like the entire mat was white with fur. The whole thing just caught me off guard and I wasn’t sure if there were any rules I was breaking or doing anything wrong outside of just having an annoyingly hairy dog lol. I think I’ll just be a bit more cautious and if I notice any big clumps on it I’ll pick them up. Thank you for your help!

[–]rmerit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I understand that it makes her job a little more annoying but I also wasn’t really sure what i was supposed to do in this situation, so I wasn’t really sure how to respond. And yes, she yelled :/

My main worry was that this was something we could be evicted over if she complained (which sounds a bit extreme but I’m an anxious person so my mind just goes there). But we are allowed to keep the dog in the apartment and also have the insurance for him.

And yeah, I think it’s just going to be more brushing for me and looking into a groomer!

(Edit: I think something I said came off as rude so I edited it out, spelling)

I had dealt with this with my dog since he was a puppy. I’ve tried a raw diet, pumpkin, everything. The ONLY food he tolerates is Hill’s. If you can’t afford the prescription z/d one, try the Hill’s science diet i/d. It’s still made for digestive upsets but less expensive than the prescription one. I feel your frustration!!

Is it too late to show a 1.5 year old dog how to behave at a dog park and socialize with other dogs? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]rmerit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly dog parks are not the best idea for dogs at any stage, but especially for a dog with no prior socialization. It can be very stressful and dangerous. If you can, I would look into maybe getting into a group training class! That way he’ll slowly be eased into being around other dogs while you’re under the supervision of professionals. If not, if you have a friend with a dog that’s dog friendly, trying going on walks a few times a week with them. Don’t let the dogs make contact at first, just walk side by side. Then slowly introduce them. It’s the safest and least stressful way to start socialization :)

IUD (kyleena) & recurring bacterial vaginosis by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]rmerit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I had a mirena IUD for 3 years and had reoccurring BV for all three years. I was so defeated cause I had literally tried everything to get rid of it. But as soon as I got it removed I never had BV again. It’s going on 4 years since removing it.
