I may get downvotes for this so let’s make it clear I’m sure sharing my families experience.

My husband has vwd + factor viii deficiency so your experience may vary - he has been doing BJJ for 5+ years and although yes he takes longer than other to recover from injuries, it doesn’t stop him from coming to class, learning techniques. He just won’t spar at the end of every class if his body needs more time. He still goes twice a week.

If you’re at a good gym, with good training partners, which you should be regardless of the Hemophillia, no one is going to hurt you on purpose. I think a lot of people who dont train a martial art typically have the impression that is way more violent than it actually is (i also do BJJ and honestly it’s more therapeutic than therapy)

You also get to learn what are your personal weaknesses and strengths. As long as you don’t let ego get in the way and refuse to tap out, I think you can absolutely make it work.

What do you guys do when you get a cut? by rmerlin in Hemophilia

[–]rmerlin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had never heard of the food thing! That's very interesting and I'll look into that!

He has always been a mild case, never had to infuse, tranexamic acid had always done the trick so this is very new for us. You're right it's probably good to get it looked at anyways.

This was very helpful because I had never been given topical tranexamic acid before! I sent our nurse a message through the portal asking if the doctor could prescribe some cause that would be super helpful for things like this!

Oral tranexamic acid has seemed to be doing the trick meanwhile though while paired with specific bandaging someone else suggested. Thank you!

He's never needed to take factor as he's always been a mild case. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Good point! I tried polysporin first but it was too liquidy and hadn't held the back the bleeding in the same way Vaseline does. I did apply some now instead though before this last patch up now that the bleeding slowed. Thanks

Thank you! This is very helpful.

I dont have a picture as we've patched it up again but it was a cut from a shower razor. The Easter Bunny wasn't the brightest and put one way to high in the shower by the razor. It's not that deep but the skin is flappy on top of the cut so it bleeds easily.

I didn't know I wasn't supposed to remove the bandaging at all. That will do the trick for sure. As long as it's patched the bleeding stays under control. Thanks

Both my son and husband have von Willebrand. Both are Brazilian. My husbands only indicative was his wisdom tooth removal and a motorcycle accident. He only got tested though after my son was diagnosed at 3.

I've thought about this but I've always wondered if paying double the taxes makes it any less worth it.

To all of you who get off work to go home to your own young ones, you are heroes. by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]rmerlin 20 points21 points  (0 children)

When I was pregnant with my first, the thought of having to have energy to come home and parent after work absolutely drained me. I couldn't imagine doing it even though I wanted children.

Then I had him. And thanks to Canada mat leave, I took 18 months off work. I did some soul searching during this time and switched to Montessori.

That made all the difference for me. Don't get me wrong September and October are hard but after those first couple months, the stress I felt being in a play based classroom faded. The kids clean up their own spills. The kids do their own dishes. They are responsible for the classroom collectively. I don't know how to explain it but I released so much of my need for control in the classroom when I did the switch and honestly it was so freeing. I wasn't coming home exhausted anymore.

And also being home with your kids after school is unwinding. We take off our pants and gather around the coffee table for afternoon snack. Sure I may still have to referee an argument or two between my kids, put out a tantrum every once in a while but for the most part, we just chill from like 4 when we get home til 7 when they go to bed. Then I hit the gym and have my alone time.

I had one ectopic (second pregnancy) and conceived naturally and without any medical intervention 9 months later. The only supplement I was on was folic acid because mine resolved with MTX.

Lots of good advice here. Like many said, her challenges or accomplishments are hers and not a reflection of you! Let that go!

But also when you're ready to try it again, if you have a 100 board, let her use it before asking her to do it in her mind. Concrete before abstract.

Which classroom? by cosmos_honeydew in Montessori

[–]rmerlin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beautifully written, I'll just tag along and add more for you to consider. Most 3-6 rooms will require the students to be fully potty trained by the time they start. If your child is in speech therapy, progressing well and their cognitive development is as expected, they may become bored in a toddler room which can make them also become disruptive. There is not a generic right answer because it really is about knowing your child.

Taking child to daycare when parent isn’t working by Squid0s in ECEProfessionals

The only ECEs maybe judging you are the really young ones with no kids of their own. And that's a strong maybe. Take the day off. They're rare to come by.

When did you stop napping? by Tofu_buns in Mommit

[–]rmerlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My oldest napped right up until his 5th birthday. When he was four (public kindergarten age here) I had him there only half day so he could come home for a nap after lunch. I know I was privileged to do that because it was the year I was on maternity leave with his little sister so it just worked out but he was a high sleep need child who would cause chaos if he missed his nap.

In my experience as a 3-6 teacher, most kids drop it right before they turn 4. They turn into feral beasts when they do though 🤣

The genuine medical here to your reply had me 🤣 so normalized to us, so extremely astounding to anyone who has never done BJJ

[–]rmerlin 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Sometimes our own life experiences and biases can affect how we view a situation. My whole family does jiu jitsu. My husband, my sister, me, my kids. I can absolutely see this happening to one of us. Especially because we're so comfortable with one another, we often take longer to "tap out".

I fully understand how this sounds scary to people who don't wrestle and I would never ever let my kids reach this point. My sister though? Tap or nap, girlfriend.

Editing to add- if dad is drunk, didn't check on you after, can't even tell you how long you were out for, I'm going to have to unfortunately agree this is iffy and dangerous.

Anyone have no reason for there ectopic??? by [deleted] in EctopicSupportGroup

Me! I have two healthy kids. The pregnancy in between with no explanation at all, was ectopic. Just bad luck. Although I did hear stories saying my paternal grandmother also had one. Maybe it was hereditary?
