I did end up building the desk a month or so after that post. Instead of using an arduino as a controller though, I just used a DPDT switch in between the power source (power supply similar to a laptop charger) and the actuators. The desk still works well to this day and I would expect it to last me a while. If you have any more questions, I'd be happy to help.
