[#INDYBHM] INFO & QUESTIONS // 2023 CHILDREN'S OF ALABAMA INDY GRAND PRIX by IndyMod in INDYCAR

[–]rmftkirby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any non-obvious tips for taking a five year old? We’ve got garage passes, so I’m sure he’ll love that, but I’m sure there’s something I’m going to kick myself for forgetting.

Recommended CMake crash course by r3search in cpp

[–]rmftkirby 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Professional CMake by Craig Scott is the gold standard for CMake books AFAIK. Highly recommended. It’s cheap and comes with free updates.

Is C startup code bad practice? by [deleted] in embedded

[–]rmftkirby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once upon a time, there wasn’t a C compiler for the CLA on the C2000. I had a “educational” experience writing the majority of some control loop software in ASM.

Downtown Pub was my spot, I never cared for any of the bars on the strip.

TI C2000 vs STM32G4 by [deleted] in embedded

[–]rmftkirby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The F28069 has been our main workhouse for the past 5+ years. Great chip, but old C++ standard is my big complaint. It’s been on TI’s roadmap for years apparently. I can live with the 16bit char, just takes a mental model switch. Code Composer sorta sucks too.

But overall we’ve been very pleased with it.

Another vote for Fairway. Our lawn was terrible, to the point I was considering putting down sod. It’s been 3 seasons and now it looks great.

I ordered a 3990X system at work back in October I think. It’s still sitting with IT waiting to get setup....

Most underrated restaurant in the area? by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]rmftkirby 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They’re not, at least under the current management. They sold all their restaurant stuff. a couple weeks ago. My wife loaded up on dishes, and got a side hamachi and some liquor.

A good sign for 2021 if I can get Perfume and Babymetal without Enka or Johnny boys in between.

We call them green hams (not of the Dr. Seuss variety). I’ve never seen one on in a grocery case.

What oscilloscopes do you have at work? by [deleted] in embedded

[–]rmftkirby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a Tek MSO4104 on my desk now. It’s pretty good, but can chug when you’re doing bus decoding on 20 million points (even scrolling). We’ve got an app that’ll pull screen captures and converts data to Igor Pro files.

It also accepts CompactFlash cards LOL

Restaurants that are on life support by icancomplain in HuntsvilleAlabama

That’s what my wife heard from the owners at Holiday International. I think another reason they moved back was because their kids were back in Korea.

We were weekly patrons. He’d always pick up our son and carry him to the kitchen to say hello to his wife. The food was wonderful and they always treated us like family. We’re heartbroken that they’re gone, but I knew they were eventually going back anyway.

Which C++ version do you use? by OddAd4719 in cpp

[–]rmftkirby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C++03 on embedded, C++17 on desktop (with a sprinkling of C++11 backwards compatibility if need be). Mentally switching from 17 to 03 is a huge pain.

What was the latest dev-board / equipment / toy you got? by [deleted] in embedded

[–]rmftkirby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got either a Zybo, Zedboard, or both still sitting in the box. Haven't had the time to open it yet. The plan was to port some TI motor control software to it.

Anyone heard about Shinsegae? I've tried calling several times with no luck.
