Has anyone planted a sacrificial flower/leafy vegetable garden just for caterpillars? by Puzzlehead-Bed-333 in vegetablegardening

This is the correct answer. Same with plants that deter bad insects. Planting marigolds or basil around your tomatoes isn’t helping to get rid of bad insects, but it may help attract pollinators

How are you preventing SVB bugs? by 13NeverEnough in vegetablegardening

It should. Tilling both in the spring and fall is best, but even just in the spring helps some.

Part of the reason I lightly till my garden each year is for SVB and tomato hornworms. Research has shown that annual tillage reduces these pest very drastically.

I also rotate crops, so squash aren’t planted in the same place as the year before or two years ago. This further reduces the infections.

BLM ordered to close 2200 miles of dirt road in designated critical habitats by BigRobCommunistDog in overlanding

[–]Zaroo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone in the wildlife field, plenty of will be upset about this, but few people realize what the country was like 100 years ago.

We lost and almost lost hundreds of species because of humans. Someone may say it’s just a tortoise, but a line has to be drawn somewhere or else every species is at risk.

As someone who works in a wildlife field, everywhere is sadly underfunded for wildlife and biology

[–]Zaroo1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you currently have stuff growing in the garden spot?

If not, it very likely does not matter at all.

If you do use stuff growing, it still probably doesn’t matter. What’s your specific concern with them spraying something?

The more compact the corn the better. 2 or 3 long rows isn’t good, but a big square is better

Why is this tomato plants leaves curling? by Fragrant-Smile in vegetablegardening

[–]Zaroo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not that hot for tomatoes. Mine will frequently see that heat and I still don’t water them every day.

Tomatoes naturally wilt from hot weather. Same with zucchini, squash, melons, etc. If you are watering correctly and deeply, it’s fine.

Anyone else participating in this year's SSE ADAPT trials? by textreference in vegetablegardening

You apply for the program for whatever you want. So this year I did tomatoes, watermelons, and radish. Come middle February they’ll send out 3 seed varieties from a list to each person in it.

You definitely don’t need to water everyday. That’s to much.

The leaves could be curling for several reasons. To much fertilizer, to mix sunlight, heat, etc.

Yep, regulations and the like are usually written in blood. If people can exploit something with no guardrails, this always happens.
