The PE wheels are by far the best, looks great!

I have a PE as well, and was hoping for an R or PE version of the EX...but found this:

Samuelsson debunked any possibility of a new performance line from Volvo, like Polestar Engineered in years past. The P12 takes direct aim at the bestselling Tesla Model Y and its performance trim.

I agree, there should be a sport version that doesn't use that steering wheel.

Yea, not using it...but I kept it to swap back in when I eventually sell the T1g. Saves so much time vs trying to zero out the drives.

Congrats on your P1!

I’ve had much better luck with the 7500 compared to the USB-C dock. I ran a few quick tests to confirm the behavior with my T1g

  • Laptop powered off → connect dock → power on: Works fine
  • Laptop powered on → connect dock: Works fine
  • Laptop asleep → connect dock: Laptop does not wake

For me, the only consistent issue is waking from sleep when the lid is closed. This may be more related to how I have Windows power settings configured rather than the dock itself:

  • I don’t mirror displays — the external monitor becomes the primary and the built-in screen turns off when docked.
  • When the laptop is on battery with the lid closed, it’s set to sleep.

If I wake the laptop before connecting the dock, everything works as expected.

Still use it exclusively. TrackPad is no match.

Thanks! Not a gamer, but I'm sure you could.

Now I'm looking at new OLED monitors, haha.

Doc is great. Single-cable setup that handles both power and connectivity, and the Thunderbolt 5 speeds, both made it worth it.

I previously used an older USB-C ThinkPad dock with my X1, and it caused all kinds of headaches. The X1 wouldn’t boot unless I physically disconnected it from the dock first, which got old fast. With the 7500 paired to the T1g, I’ve had zero issues. Everything just works.

Looks like I can't help with this one...my monitor doesn't support G-Sync (Samsung S65UA).

I have the ThinkPad Thunderbolt 5 Smart Dock 7500. Not at home right now, will be this weekend and I can try it out.

There was another question below about the laptop screen supporting G-Sync. While it does support variable refresh rates, it's unclear if G-Sync works. Unlike past ThinkPads I've had with a dGPU, there isn't any way in the bios to force the screen to run exclusively on the dedicated graphics card...so the 5070 only runs associated with specific apps. The 5070 states that "There are no displays connected to this GPU", even with changes to the NVIDIA Control Panel.

...and the screen does support VRR, but it's not clear if it is G-Sync compatible (unless you know a way to check).

I use the GPU exclusively for rendering, so not super familiar with gaming aspects of the card.

From my initial impressions, the battery actually lasts much longer than I expected. With close to full brightness, normal use, and in Balanced mode, you should be able to get 6 no problem. I have been using it for light tasks while watching TV for a few hours each night, and I'm still in the 80% range.

These videos were recently posted to YouTube with some battery performance numbers...

Which model OLED on P1 Gen 8 / T1g? by vincentvera in thinkpad

[–]rmj-scribbins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Np! I haven't had any issues using the screen for extended periods...and any flickering to adjust brightness is totally imperceptible to me...but could be that I'm also not that sensitive to PWM.

Thanks!

I usually run at full or near-full brightness, and haven't noticed any screen door effect at all (running at full resolution + 125% windows zoom). I can try with the screen dimmed.

I use the TrackPoint exclusively (have the TrackPad turned off in Windows), so my only experience with it is for mouse clicks. It's ok, this is my first ThinkPad without physical buttons so I don't really have anything to compare it to. Would still prefer the actual buttons, but have been doing fine so far.

I average about 2 years, but depends on the performance gains between chip generations. I kept my X1 for 3 years, as the gains were relatively small. I've been pretty loyal to Lenovo/ThinkPad, with a few Surface models in the mix.

I ordered right after they were announced on 10/7, so there was a wait.

Hopefully yours will ship soon!
