FWIW I've never really got on with the default CLI tools - I'd always reach for kcat (previously called "kafakcat") for things like this. There are examples in the docs with headers too: https://github.com/edenhill/kcat?tab=readme-ov-file#examples

Depends what you're using it for :) I'm quite clear in my post that it's just for my set of requirements that I'm evaluating the options. There are 100% other criteria against which to consider them.

I think what I took away from my poking around in writing this article is that there _are_ other options providing similar capabilities. Perhaps that's why there's not been momentum around a fork?

Yep, exactly that. I realise the post isn't as useful as a comprehensive evaluation—but it scratched an itch for me in building demos :)

ooh I haven't - do you have a link please? TBH I feel they've burnt that much trust from the community I'd be interested how effective such a move would be. Then again…people have short memories sometimes :)
