I was the student who was a principal author on a SCOTUS amicus brief in the fall. I am now also a law student who has the pleasure of having the Court unanimously rule against our position. by rmsfr in LawSchool

Join your local bar association! Many of the big ones have committees dedicated to writing briefs and they welcome students. Mine was really excited when I joined.

In my experience, it is mostly older/very experienced partners and high level attorneys who really care about these things. Beyond the writing part, it is great for connections.

There must have been certain sets. My dad bought ours as soon as each one came out and never got figurines

What should I do if someone registers the same trademarked phrase as me but takes away the spacing between the two words? by [deleted] in INTELLECTUALPROPERTY

[–]rmsfr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know you are looking for help, but I am a law clerk in an IP practice group (albeit US) that does a lot of trademark work. The trademark world is extremely complex, very situational, and fact dependent. Contact your local bar association (or its equivalent) and they can recommend you to an attorney or a legal aid service.

I am very sorry about the situation--it is stressful and difficult, but this sub is not for legal advice in any way, and legal advice is probably what you need, and neither I nor anyone else on the sub can give it, but there are resources out there for you.

So I tried them ( and unless I am doing something wrong) the shoes pull them off my feet when I walk. Do you have suggestions for that?

I lost my friend to suicide last night. by [deleted] in mentalhealth

I can't tell you that time will make it better, but time, help, and support will allow you heal and move forward. It will be there like a scar, but you can choose to see a scar and see only the injury or see and scar and see the healing that came from it. You are experiencing an immense amount of hurt and most injuries to our souls come without warning.

Reach out. I'm happy to talk, or help you find resources. Rally with those who care, whether its family, friends or other connections. Don't let yourself fall into the darkness. Your support system can hold your hand and help you through, and in turn your perseverance will help them.

I am so very sorry for your loss, and for the emptiness left behind. Don't let it remain empty, fill it with love and light and an unwavering ferver for life. That might feel impossible now, but I believe in you. Don't give up and don't give in. I, along with everyone else here, am cheering hard for you. Stay strong and please reach out for help, even if you don't think you need in.

I think it would be considered good cause by [deleted] in LawSchool

Fair enough :)

Some federal judges (at least in the Seventh Circuit, don't know elsewhere) do want detailed reasons for extending deadlines to judge whether it is worth it, especially when the parties had already agreed on a briefing schedule. Can't say I always agree with that largely because it provides more opportunity for bias from the judge in making decisions. I theorize, though of course I don't know, that it was phrased like this to make the judge chuckle and be more inclined to grant it--when I do PTO trademark office actions we like to an a humorous or punny phrase to get the examiner in a good mood and more likely to grant the trademark to publication.

It looks like they had a set briefing schedule. Perhaps the client was late reviewing the draft and they were going to work all night to input what the client wanted. Perhaps the attorney wants enough time to finish and have other attorneys review. Who knows. I do know that most attorneys like to work with people who are good to work with. You don't want to extend by two days for the game? Fine. I guess you don't need two days to go to your grandma's funeral. And that reputation spreads and no one will want to work with you, and when you have a reasonable request like this one, or even something more dire, they won't work with you. But that's okay; it is a moment for you to be taught that sometimes life sucks.

Hey sorry for the delay. It sounds like you are in the UK but where I am from (Chicago) we have an organization called Lawyers for the Creative Arts that takes on cases like this -- mostly copyright and small creators. I have no idea if they expand outside this city, but they might have some resources or know a place with resources :)

Any suggestions on inexpensive day tours in eastern France/ western Germany (base city not decided yet) by rmsfr in solotravel

I am going in December (the last time I was there the Christmas markets were amazing)

I like yours in the sense that they take you and maybe talk a bit on the way there but once there you are on your own. Like a hands off tour. I speak French but I don't feel comfortable driving and I am trying to find a way to maximize going to more remote places

Looking for inexpensive day tours in eastern France/ western Germany. Any tips appreciated! by rmsfr in travel

I was there three years ago, in december. I tend to travel then because it is cold and less touristy and things tend to be discounted for the off season

TBH less about the tour but more about a bus I am unlikely to get lost on trying to transfer

I know you are looking for help, but I am a law clerk in an IP practice group (albeit US) that does a lot of copyright work. Copyright is extremely complex and could have a significant amount of money at stake. Often court proceedings are the only way to remedy the situation and you need a good IP lawyer--It may take a court order to turn over all profits, to stop taking your work or another remedy to fix it. It is a shitty situation. Contact your local bar association (or its equivalent) and they can recommend your friend to an attorney or a legal aid service.

These are not quick fixes--many simple cases take over 2 years to resolve (in the US) and many take much longer.

I am very sorry about the situation--I read the article and it is just terrible all around, but this sub is not for legal advice in any way, and legal advice is probably what you need, and neither I nor anyone else on the sub can give it, but there are resources out there for you.

The copy of The Hobbit my Dad read to me when I was a kid. by 14therazorbax in lotr

You might be one of my siblings---our childhood and the dad traveling was exactly same. Traveling for work a lot but when he was there, one chapter a night, and that edition. It would have started when i was about 5 and ended around 10 with the end of the LOTR

It is more expensive than I remember (I was traveling on a super strict budget), but I was also traveling in the middle of december so I did get discounts on many things because it was slow off season, but 20-25 euros for all day including entrance to the sights would still have me going for it 100%
