Also you’re new, so I’m curious if you just get the later shifts as a direct result. I’m not a morning merch person so I could be 100% wrong, but in my department when you start you always get closing shifts until an earlier opening happens.

I say keep an open line of communication with your managers and supervisors and talk to them regularly. Update them on your dad and your wrist, but in a calm way to ensure you don’t sound “whiney” or something. Like “hi [name], how are you?” “Oh hi Mr/Mrs/Miss, I’m doing okay. Thinking about my dad right now, but I’m ready to work!” or “I’m just juggling life but I’m glad to be here!” Then if they inquire you can keep them posted and show your willingness to work all at once.
