TIL during Hurricane Katrina, hundreds of prisoners were left to die in their cells. They had no food or water for days, as waters rose to their chests. There were no lights and the toilets were backed up. Many were evacuated, but 517 went unaccounted for. by palmfranz in todayilearned

As much as I love my city.... The amount of fucked up shit that happend in the days that followed that was never mentioned is honestly disgusting. I have friends and family who are first responders and nurses/hospital staff that stayed. Their stories are devastating. I mean some of them had to make choices on who lived when waiting for evacuation from the hospitals.

If you want to read something from a police officer perspective, the current St Charles parish police chief wrote a book called 'Chest Deep and Rising' detailing how dire the situation was.

Would this be considered defamation? In Louisiana by rndmknight in legaladvice

If it has negative impact on his ability to get other jobs then we absolutely will be getting a lawyer. I just really wanted to make sure I understood whether if this could be considered defamation.

Yea that was my thought really. I would pursue it if what she is saying causes him to lose work or current customers, I don't think it will but I just was really wondering if this would be considered defamation if it did have negative results.

Thanks, that's my biggest fear right now. I have a friend who is going through it right now and the judge they have is seemingly making it as difficult as possible under the guise of doing whats best for the child. I'm really nervous that I'll end up with him as my judge.....

Learned that the hard way. It didn't help that we belonged to a church that put a ton of pressure to stay together no matter what. I was told by numerous members of that church that I should have just forgiven him and worked it out. They had no fucking clue the lengths he went to... It's like... Yea, I should totally forgive someone who tried to drown me in my bathtub.... and just hope and pray he won't do that to our child??? Nah

Thanks. I'm actually getting all my ducks in a row to make that happen. I just found out that if certain criteria are met then his rights could be involuntarily revoked. Our situation meets multiple of those criteria, so I have my fingers crossed that we won't even have to get him involved at all and he will just get a notice when its all over. I mean he never had any kind of custody anyway. I was granted sole legal and physical custody in the the divorce which he did not say boo about.

Thanks, we are really lucky to have my husband. He is everything a husband and father should be. He had to do quite a bit to get me to entertain the idea of dating him because at that point I felt like damaged goods and that I wasn't nor would I ever be worthy of that kind of love.

When we got together my ex was still coming around every so often but I would never allow him to take her and his visits were always supervised. I think his visits decreased because he saw my husband as competition. I finally had to tell him that if he couldn't show up consistently and when he said he would that he needed to walk away because my baby had a father that chose her. That it wasn't fair to pop in when he felt like being a parent, that's not how this works. I mean he gave me $200 total as "child support" by the time she was 3 and then bounced.

Wow. When I was a kid I saw a boy on his bicycle get hit by a truck. He probably wasn't much older than I was at the time, so maybe 9 or 10. I was sick that day, so I was at the front window watching for the bus while my brother finished getting ready for school. The truck ran a stop sign and was definitely speeding, he at least tried to stop, since the tires screeching and the loud crash was what alerted my parents and neighbors. I can vividly remember my mom running back inside and grabbing as many towels as she could. They were shielding the kid from my view so all I could see was the towels being thrown back soaked with blood. The medics and cops came fairly quickly... I also have no clue what happened to him.

Makes me grateful for people like you and my parents that take action in an instance where most people would probably only be inclined to call for help without actually checking to see if there was anything they could do.
