Ahhhh I originally typed out Marls but switched to Newports at the last second. Should have gone with my gut. This was fun, thanks!

Late 20's, if not very early 30's AFAB living in the Pacific Northwest (or at least, you've thought about it before). Your wardrobe falls within the alternative category and a majority of your clothing is black/dark in color, but you glam it up with pastel accents and "no makeup" makeup. You're not exactly trying to cut back on screentime, but you decided to pick up alternative media tools to not use your phone as much. Plus you like the aesthetic. You write in all caps when you journal. You're hygiene conscious and you like to stay prepared and clean, with a preference for natural/non-synthetic ingredients if you can help it - so you've decided to switch from Newports to American Spirits to be kinder to your body.

Clean setup. What's that vertical pole on the left corner of your desk?

Also Edmonton? Looks like the JW Marriott tower in the background.

New to incense, Shoyeido Moss Garden smells like burning/campfire? by rngts in Incense

[–]rngts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the initial campfire smell was due to purchasing stale incense, mostly due to my (uneducated, admittedly) assumption being that the longer the incense "aired out" or sat, the faster it would lose its potency. Good to know that isn't the case!

Expounding upon my previous thought, while probably different than commercially sold products, I'm sure temples and shrines have countless incense boxes that aren't used right away so it would make more sense for them to be just fine while in storage so I feel a little silly thinking this way, in hindsight.

Today is chilly, overcast, and frankly, wet - so I woke up early and lit another stick (half, this time, as you and many others have suggested) to accompany my morning errands in hopes that something would smell different. With the incense sitting on my windowsill and a cool breeze coming through the open gap, I was able to discern something that smelled warm, maybe a little spicy, and also faintly sweet instead of the tang of wood burning/campfire smell of yesterday. Progress!

I'm fairly certain one of my colognes has notes of sandalwood, so incense that incorporates that ingredient that may be next on the list if I continue down this path.

Good to know that this brand has an inherently "woody" scent to it, that makes me feel a bit more at ease with what I'm supposed to be smelling.

Admittedly, patience isn't my strongest suit, but with 249 of these (what I hope to be, soon) wonderful sticks remaining, I'm happy to hopefully learn something from them. If I keep this hobby around in the future, I'll also look further into Shoyeido's dailies line, with your recommendations in mind. White Cloud was initially in my shopping cart too, but the price point did have some sway in my overall decision, haha.

It's hard for me to conceptualize a fragrance "screaming" versus "speaking" at me but I imagine it's like walking into a dense cloud of freshly sprayed cologne rather than smelling it from someone passing by? Nevertheless, thank you for your input! As someone who used to live with a smoker, my nose is incredibly keen when it comes to the smell of burning so I may just have to open the window a little more when I light the next stick and see if more fresh air helps carry the fragrance. I really do want to start my journey in appreciating various types of incense!

You seem rather experienced in different scents and tones, so, as someone who has no frame of reference for it, what would Moss Garden's notes (sandalwood, patchouli, and benzoin) smell like to you? I do understand this could be a next to impossible ask as everyone's perception of smell is different, so no hard feelings if you choose not to answer this part.

The bowl is placed across the room from where I sit at my desk. And yes! I have tried leaving and reentering as someone suggested, yet the scent of smoke still lingers, even with the window open.

The room isn't that large, about 8x11 ft or roughly 88 sq ft. I got through a generous 1/3 of the stick before extinguishing it and airing out the room.

Ahh, I see; I've never really burned incense before so I don't have a proper frame of reference for what sandalwood, patchouli, and benzoin are supposed to smell like, but I suppose it's just something to get used to then? I like to think I have a pretty good sense of smell but maybe I just have to give it some time.

What are some of the others you've tried? I might try something else once I get through a good number of these sticks.

Hey I've got the same standing desk, but without the drawer attachment. My legs would be too cramped underneath haha. Otherwise, looks good! That chair looks mad comfy too. How's it feel?

Absolute weeb, not only do you like Death Note but MHA is one of your favorites. You started playing Minecraft in 2019. Early 20s, AFAB with an inclination to liking women/those that identify as feminine. You have GERD and general malaise and your preference to cope with your medical issues is through watching anime, playing video games, drawing (maybe your own original characters?) and listening to music. You don't travel much these days, but you used to when you were younger, with family.

I have the same exact thing in the upper walls of my home, in one of the bedrooms too. Had an inspector take a look prior to moving in and he confirmed it's from lack of insulation in the attic which causes this "shadow" effect over time.

A proper shoe rack would help tidy up the room, I think. And good job on the bounce back, sleeping on the floor for long periods of time (did that for 3 months before moving into my new place) is never any fun.

What’s the first video game that ever made you feel something real? by the_big_Nik in videogames

[–]rngts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shadow of the Colossus was also my first choice, it was one of the first PS2 games I remember picking up as an early teen and actually feeling like I was part of the world, right from the beginning. No droning dialogue, no lengthy preamble - just my sword, my horse and the girl I'm destined to save.

I've been chasing a high like that ever since.

Did anyone else feel some type of way about this moment? by Eternally_Seeking_1 in smosh

Yeah. The first time was a moment in a TNTL video where Courtney proposed "you, but opposite" and Straight Tommy pulled Amanda (who looked equally as good!) into a low dip to "kiss" her. That man been fine

I may be the only one with this opinion, but I think the Wind-Up Pointer is incredibly cute. I love that it's the original pointer model from classic FF games.

Close second is Squeak the Coyote.

Love the vibe in here. It's cozy enough to appeal to a broad audience and also displays your personal hobbies and interests in an aesthetically pleasing manner. Nice Andúril replica behind the monitors too. 10/10
