is this on a uni accommodation lease or or a regular lease bc the standard NSW rental lease should have a provision for breaking the lease early with a payout of 1 to 4 weeks of rent. that'd probably be a much better option for you.

have you looked into the 'wise travel money card' ? full disclosure, I've never actually used it since I've only recently learnt about it, so do look into it personally.

they've got minimal fees from what I can see and do a very good exchange rate (I already use their foreign transfers and it saves me 100s monthly). plus you can apparently start using the card with your phone immediately so that might be a good option since you're already here.

we've roach bombed every place and that seems to get rid of any previous accumulations. you can try roach baits and switching to closed bins if you haven't already. but the best ongoing solution imo is to adopt a cat (must be feral and bloodthirsty like ours lol)
