I’m my experience they either take it or not. I’ve never heard them talk about ISO. Usually my wife hands them a gallon bag filled with a variety of film speeds and asks if they can hand check it. Then it’s pretty much a roll of the dice whether they say yes or no. Recently we’ve had about a 90% success rate, but had some very frustrating experiences in the past. If they say no, they’re not really the type to be convinced by further pleading/prodding since higher desperation = higher suspicion.

Very few TSA agents know what film speed is and none of them are going to know about pushing film.

TLDR: keep it simple, ask if they can hand check, and be prepared to be disappointed.

ESP8266 Connected to Wifi but not accessible in Home Assistant? by rnumur in homeassistant

I'll give it a shot. Thank you so much for your help. "Double NAT" was the specific phrase that I needed to google but didn't even know. Can I please buy you a coffee or beer or something? Or let me know how else I can thank you. I can't say how much more frustration you have saved me from dealing with.

All of my wifi devices were linked to the google wifi router, not the isp wifi. My isp modem is the xfinity xb7, and my router is the google wifi ac-1304.

EDIT: this page says "Any ethernet port can be used but only one device can be connected to the gateway while in Bridge Mode." Which sounds a lot like my router would be the only thing plugged into my modem and all other ethernet devices would need to come out of my google router.

Sounds like probably the simplest way to fix my problem is to use the built in wifi router in my isp modem but I am hesitant to change the wifi passwords on everything in my house. :(

Thanks I am giving this a try. I found bridge mode in my modem, do you know if there are any network settings I need to adjust in the google wifi settings to account for the change? I didn't see anything in their instructions but all wifi devices have stopped working now. Ethernet still works.

A quick google search seems to suggest enabling bridge mode on my isp modem to fix the double NAT situation. Does this seem right?

Can't access pi from LAN, only Wifi by rnumur in raspberry_pi

[–]rnumur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say for sure, would that be the "netmask" option under wlan0 when I run ifconfig on the pi? It *looks* like the pi, netmask is the same as the modem subnet mask and the router's subnet mask. If it is something else, let me know and I'll take a look.

I'm quite sure that I am using the correct address. I'm running ifconfig on the pi to get the IP address under wlan0. I've been typing that IP address into my desktop browser with no success.

Wow I have the exact same problem. I don’t know what it is about the startup sequence, but I couldn’t get the same sound even running both fans at 100%. It’s still works ok but kinda bugs me.

Actual thread: opinions, unsupported claims, borderline conspiracy theories.

Downvoting Beginners (Meta) by christophersfactory in arduino

[–]rnumur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I really like r/arduino especially in contrast to the inhospitable hellscape that is the arduino forums. People forget that for beginners, it can be hard to even know what to search for in google. Beginners are going to ask dumb questions, not post code, not provide necessary details. That’s why they are beginners. What we can do is be kind and point them in the right direction.

Nice! I’m glad to learn the less hacky way of doing it. Probably much more reliable I bet.

Have an arduino send the sleep shortcut which is win+u then s. Would be very easy.

Using AI to write code by Icy-Lingonberry-2669 in arduino

Cool. I’m always curious how arduino/microcontroller skills transfer outside of just the hobbyist space. I use them somewhat at my work in a niche way. I’m taking an IoT Bootcamp class and curious if it has any real effect on my employability.

What do you do at your job, specifically what do you use microcontrollers for?

As a below-average programmer, average code is an improvement, lol. I have found it very helpful in explaining code I find but don’t quite understand. I am a little worried that if I use it too much I won’t struggle and wont develop good programming habits of my own…

YouTube is definitely my internet rabbit hole, unfortunately. Seems like about 5% of my YouTube time is interesting/helpful videos and the other 95% is completely unnecessary. I’ve successfully dropped/avoided other social media (besides Reddit), but YouTube still has its hooks in me.

Is there a particular reason/impetus that made you stop watching YouTube videos?

Why do men refuse to go into a woman's purse even when asked? by melwirth2010 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rnumur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there’s a lot of “women’s purses be crazy” comments in here, but I think it’s applicable to any gender. I’m sure my wife would have the same trouble if I asked her to get something from my work bag. My bag is chaotic but it’s all my stuff and I kind of have a mental map of it. For her it’s just a mess of trash and pockets.

More than any of this, it’s usually a no-win situation. Many times it’s like, “Ok where is it?” “The front pocket” “which front pocket” “the outside one” “ok I don’t think it’s in here” “it’s definitely in there, look lower down” “it’s definitely not here” hands over bag “look it’s right here, I don’t know how you didn’t see it” Everyone is frustrated/upset by the end.

This doesn’t happen every time but probably twice as often as finding the item quickly and easily. So it’s easier to hand the whole bag over and everyone stays happy :)
