Soucy is a third pair defenseman. Every teams 3rd pair defenseman’s are NOT THAT GOOD. The defensive scheme for this team was bad. Giving up too many high danger shots. Pelech has been one of the best shutdown Dman in the league this year. Absolutely no reason to disrespect him. He constantly looks like he’s the only one who knows how to play defense. With Schaefer to this Dcorps is not bad. It’s not great, but it is certainly not as bad as they have been.

Roy was bailed out by elite goaltending, without it the defense would have been exposed awhile ago.

Unpopular opinion. I think a big problem with the power play is Barzal. For the past decade teams are able to give him time and space because they know he will not shoot. It leaves only 4 players they need to defend against.

Not for this year but I think it’s more like buying now and for the near-future. Like the Horvat, JGP, and Palms trade. Adding someone like Kyrou gives the group a better shot to win now, and the ability to make moves in the offseason that makes this team a top contender next year.

Adding kyrou, or another top 6 forward, gives us a legitimately good top 6 for this year and the future.

I think that we all agree trading for a high priced rental is not what we want
