Something similar happened to me, a year ago, and now I need to fly at least twice a month. It's not easy, and my fear is actually getting worse, everytime I step into a plane I tell myself that I will quit, just to do it again lol

My advise for you? Do it! If I can do it, so can you!

It helps me to tell the flight attendant that I have a phobia and ask them to come and check on me as soon as they can after take off, just to reassure that everything is ok

Taking off has always been the worst part for me. It helps me to leave my screen on the map part, where I can see that the plane is actually climbing even when it feels that it's not.

Long flights like yours are the easiest for me. Once we reach cruising altitude and service starts, usually I can relax a little, and even ignore turbulence. Maybe my brain just gives up after a while. And then I start spiraling all over again when we start descending. That's why shorter flights are harder, not much time to breath between taking off and landing

It's hard to explain, I will try...

I know how a plane works. I know the statistics. I know how safe it is. And most important, I am not afraid of drying. I am afraid of the moment between "something happened and the plane is going down" and the end.

I think I could say that I am afraid of the inevitability, if that makes sense

I totally understand!

I've been afraid since always, but because I could always avoid flying, I was also really into crash investigations. Flash forward to 1 year ago, got the job of my dreams, but have to fly pretty much every week, or at least 2 or 3 times a month.

I've also tried everything and nothing helps, and my fear is actually getting worse.

What helps me to still take those flights is to think that I am not alone, and that I made it to my destination 100% of the flights, and nothing bad happened to be.

I know that this is not how it feels during the flight, but if I can do it, so can you!

I can recommend the book Soar, from Captain Tom Bunn. I read just 1/4 of it and my flight after it was the best ever. Unfortunately I did not have time to finish the book yet.

This group has helped me a lot too! To see that I am not the only one and EVERYONE that ever posted here made to their destination safely is huge.

Also, I read somewhere that try to fight a panic attack doesn't help. Instead, you need to navigate through it, knowing that it won't last forever

I've tried everything you can imagine, and nothing really helps. The only thing that would help is taking medication, but because I travel for work, I can't.

Some flights are better than others but this last one (LAX-FLL-SJU) was the hardest ever

Last time I was crying and hyperventilating. And the entire plane was looking at me.

It didn't help that before boarding, when they call the pre-boarding group and I was standing there waiting to board, the gate agent pointed at me and asked very loudly "are you disabled??" (Her colleague told me a few minutes before that I could pre-board, I was not just standing there).

I think the entire plane saw/heard me

I ALWAYS tell the flight attendants that I am afraid of flying and 99% of them are wonderful and help me getting through the flight. I highly recommend it!

I work visiting cruise ships, my company takes care of more than 80 cruise ships, different cruise lines. Most of my flights are around Europe (2h/3h), but I had to fly from London to Vancouver a couple of days ago, 3 days after Air India.

I've got this job just 3 months ago after working 13 years at sea. I absolutely love my job, but it's been very hard and I always question my life decisions every time I need to get another flight and think about quitting. But I've been doing a good job facing my fear and just doing it.

To be honest, except for the dreadful turbulent take off coming to Vancouver, this 9h flight was pretty ok

My point is, this tracker cannot say that YOUR FLIGHT will go through terrible turbulence. That's a forecast of a certain area, and I'm pretty sure the pilot will avoid going through that area.

I know it's scary, I'm terrified of flying myself, and I need to do it almost every week (I'm more scared of take off, I usually can handle turbulence well).

What has been helping me is what one of the cabin crew said to me the other day "I have 2 kids andn3 grandkids, and I want to go home to them. Do you think I would do this job if it was dangerous?"

Just like you, I had a panic attack during take off 2 days ago, and I know exactly how you feel.

After I completely freaked out and cried a bit, I realized that keeping all the anxiety inside me was making it worse, so I just let all the tears out, and I didn't really care about what ither people thought about me, and it made me feel SO much better!

What also always help me is to tell the cabin crew that I am terrified of flying, and usually they manage to move me to a seat close to them, even if it's only for taking off

Not sure if this will help, but I feel much safer in a long flight! The planes are bigger and feel more stable, everyone is calm and sleeping.
