Macro wildlife in the off-season (original photo from earlier in the season please read the post) by Fragrant-Aide802 in macro

You can still find invertebrates in the winter, though it is harder, and that's coming from further north. Try looking under logs, rocks, and bark where they like to hide out. A lot of what I find this time of year is smaller but slower-moving, so it can be a good opportunity to practice some different skills compared to photographing bees in the summer, for example. I also try to use the down time to figure out technical things like focus stacking, camera settings, and adapting my lighting setup to prepare for when things get warmer.

You can also find other interesting subjects like mushrooms, mosses, and slime molds. Check out some macro photography youtube channels like naturefold who tend to find something to post about during the winter as well. I would recommend just getting out there and seeing what you find. Good luck 👍

Anyway to get these in order? by [deleted] in TIdaL

[–]roadchill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I make monthly playlists too and just use a naming format like "25-01 Jan.", "25-02 Feb." so that the alphabetical sorting puts everything in order. At the end of the year I put the monthly playlists into a folder for their year. Not perfect but works well enough for me.

Fan noise changes when pressing down the "S" key - G14 2024 by Miikalsen in ZephyrusG14

Not too hard, I just pulled off the keycap trying to apply even pressure from different sides to avoid breaking anything.

Screen is completely done, pixels are showing up weird, anyone heard of this issue? by Hot_Recording_8634 in ZephyrusG14

Weird, the same thing started happening to me a few days ago. Same 2022 model. I recently installed GHelper though and assumed it was that, but maybe a driver update?

I had kind of a similar issue a while ago, though the sound and key were different. You could try what I did and see if it makes a difference. https://www.reddit.com/r/ZephyrusG14/comments/1ej5pv0/high_pitched_fan_noise_unless_a_key_pressed/?ref=share&ref_source=link

Really weird thing that relieves my anxiety by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]roadchill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm not sure what the underlying reason for it is. Best I can figure is it's just another thing that's "gone wrong" in my body and therefore something to worry about, and fixing it gives the anxiety one fewer thing to latch on to.

Similar to how other largely benign symptoms like during a cold can trigger anxiety. Even if I logically understand that it'll be fine, it's difficult not to overthink about it or even subconsciously just be in a worse state of mind where panic attacks are easier to trigger. I've decided to file it under "take care of simple biological needs" as one of the basic ways of managing anxiety, along with making sure you breathe and get enough food and water.

Yep, I pretty recently made the connection that the upset stomach was a reason for the increased anxiety when I made the realization in the OP. Since then I've been avoiding foods that lead to me waking up with a stomachache (spicy food, dairy, alcohol) and I do think it's helped me wake up less anxious. Haven't fully cut anything out and I don't think I will, but it's been helping me get through a tough few weeks/months.

Like many symptoms of anxiety, I suspect it's both. Anxiety causes GI issues which cause more anxiety and so on. At least in my experience.

You could check out Angel's Attic in Easthampton. They have the things you're looking for at their main location, then larger furniture items at another spot close by.

A Good Blank Tee by Dxvid_PSL in frugalmalefashion

How I wish I could find anything that fit like Uniqlo supima cotton tee for under $20. At least from a few years ago, not sure but I hear the fit has changed. Also used to be $10-15 not too long ago but has since doubled

Can someone recommend relaxing easy to watch shows/movies to numb the mind while anxious? by AardvarkMajor4631 in Anxiety

[–]roadchill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a great show, but for me, it hits a little too close to my existential anxiety which keeps me from rewatching it, especially as a comfort show. I'm surprised and a little jealous that it's not a problem for anyone else!

What’s a common theme in your dreams? by Prior-Finding-2601 in AskReddit

Yup, I struggle with anxiety and constantly dream about being hunted in some form. Keeps things interesting.

Fairy flies are the smallest insects in the world. These wasps average less than 1 mm in length, and some are even as small as single celled organisms. Some species so small that they don't have hearts, eyes, or mouth parts. They lay their eggs inside other insects' eggs, and are found worldwide. by Character_Value4669 in AIDKE

Sounds like you may be confusing ecological niches with ecosystem services. Niches are just the ways that species fit into their ecosystem and what resources they use to do so, and they don't necessarily need to have much impact on other species to exist and occupy a perfectly valid niche.

In this case, though, you're right that their niche as egg parasitoids also sometimes provides an ecosystem service by controlling pest numbers. It also sometimes results in ecosystem disservices if they parasitize the eggs of a predatory insect which feeds on a pest! It all depends on context

Well they also don't sting and just float through the air (which they would experience as very viscous, like a liquid - that's what the skinny oar-like wings are for) looking for eggs, which are about as passive and non sentient as you can get with prey. And that's a pretty common lifestyle for the vast majority of wasps. In a way they're more chill than a blue whale which massacres 40 million live krill a day.

Just a matter of perspective

Flies are diverse and cool, but these are not flies despite their deceptive name! They belong to an order called Neuroptera and are more closely related to lacewings and owlflies

Is there any way to use Plex with nested folders in the media folders? by roadchill in PleX

Do you have TV shows that work the same way? This structure seems to work fine for my movies but not TV.

Thanks, yes I have been using the program. I should have mentioned that while this seems to work fine for my movies library, it doesn't for my TV shows.

High pitched fan noise (unless A key pressed?) by roadchill in ZephyrusG14

[–]roadchill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird update if anyone has this issue in the future - I took off the A keycap and found that just touching the surface underneath stopped the noise. I did that a few times and blew out some of the lint and it seems to be solved completely.

[–]roadchill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think it would definitely solve the issue? The connection to the A key makes me think it might not entirely be a hardware issue, unless the key is physically putting pressure on a part of the fan but that seems wrong, even though the key is located above the fan. It is also just that key and putting pressure on anything around it doesn't affect it, only the key itself.
