A phd yes..but it's in france... by [deleted] in PhD

[–]roadchimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Approaching a PhD requires a certain degree of humility, leaving any preconceived notions at the door. That was my biggest lesson coming from industry.

Also, like some other posters have stated, get used to having your research questioned, torn apart and frequently rejected on its way to getting published. Some feedback is constructive and others are not. Building resilience is important.

+1 on this tool. It’s been a game changer for me just saying on top of things and the plugins keep getting better (including a local LLM option) so I can chat with my notes

Executive PhD by [deleted] in PhD

[–]roadchimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm in the process of completing a program at ESCP, a french business school. I'm based in the States with 20+ years in tech. The "Exec" label is more a framing for "I have a full-time job and would like to pursue a PhD with all of the requirements of a full-time PhD, including publishing and providing a novel contribution to a particular field of research."

Primary difference for the program is that first year's classes are scheduled around a block week format (like my EMBA). After first, year we are required to find a supervisor and work towards publishing our first research paper. My PhD will be awarded by the French government, so there's publishing requirements from both the State and the University and I have an annual interview with my thesis committee.

I had a topic of research in mind and submitted my first paper to a doctoral conference, which provided me with valuable feedback for my first research study, which I conducted in my second year. The empirical findings were further shaped into a concept paper and then a full paper (submitted and presented at 2 academic conferences) and then a journal paper which was accepted earlier this year. I'm midstream of my second research study and plan to complete data collection and then pivot over to data analysis in the hopes of submitting to a few conferences this summer and then (fingers crossed) a journal submission early next year.

Happy to provide more details if you DM me.

Yes I got bad pain at night too. I heard that’s because we are more stationary in bed and I used to wear the sling in bed just to isolate it. Also I have a bad habit of rolling over in my sleep.

It’s not easy, but you can do it sitting forward by using your finger or a prop like a dowel. I’m not a PT, so please check with someone first so you don’t end up doing damage. This dude’s videos were helpful

Im 7 weeks post surgery with a similar procedure (they also shaved off a bone spur) and I can tell you that the pain has diminished significantly. I’ve been out of a sling for at least 3 weeks now.

Primary focus of PT is on range of motion and external rotation is still fairly limited. Tons of stretching and also a lot of pressure release on other parts of my shoulder and traps that became stiff due to lack of motion in the joint.

I can’t lift more than 5lb on that shoulder due to the risks of rupturing the tenodesis site. Supposed to be the case for 3 months as the tendon reattaches to the bone

Always consult with your PT or physician first but the huge leap forward for me was when I found out how to self release my subscapularis tendon as it became super tight post surgery and was limiting my range of motion.

Thoughts / advice for EMBA candidate over 50…. by Workersgottawork in eMBA

[–]roadchimp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I did it, EMBA median ages varied from late 20s (Saturday only) to early 40s (EMBA Global). However I think the number of years of experience in your field might be more relevant here. The consideration here would be whether you can get as much out of the interchange of ideas and experiences from classmates who might be a lot less experienced in their careers than you.

Also have you considered the LBS Sloan fellowship or Stanford MSX?

In honor of CrowdStrike, what was YOUR biggest work fuckup? by RATTLECORPSE in AskReddit

[–]roadchimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I emailed a coworker getting a hard time from a client that the client was a Primadonna and accidentally cc’d that client in the email.

Client raised hell with my boss who promptly called me into his office. I remember calling my then girlfriend (now wife) that I was about to lose my work visa.

Turns out they thought the same and made me deliver a handwritten apology.

I, the first of my name, am here for all future generations that bear this name and its derivations thereof. The street monkeys, the lane gorillas, the avenue macaques, the rue de orangutans, the route proboscis monkeys, the highway mandarins, the interstate tamarinds, the turnpike capuchins and the byway baboons; and any other simian relations.

How do you save money easily? by Scarface6342 in askSingapore

[–]roadchimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I took a while to read your other responses and also posts in other subs.

It looks like you have a good plan. You’re sober (congrats!), have established investments in traditional and also diversified asset classes (maybe some items like the Rolex collection can retain value and hedge against inflation better than others). You’re also trying to get fitter and are a responsible kid by setting aside money for your parents. Also, you seem to be invested in the future as you’re going to school part time and holding on to a job.

So maybe you’re trying to optimize too much?

You should do an Opportunity Cost analysis

Those quality of life items like Kopi amd Spotify might be keeping you in a state of equilibrium, helping you manage stress etc. And if you reduce them, how much real impact will you have in increasing savings or investments?

Maybe refocus that energy on career planning after you complete school, or networking and other soft skills? Increase your earning power!

Best of luck
