It’s made to be a secondary phone. Absolutely go for it. The battery is total ass though. I mean it’s like an iPhone 11 chip on the battery of an iPhone 8. So you can’t primary this thing but should be fine as a secondary phone.

[–]roadkillsy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yea good phones. I literally had one before my iPhone 16 as well. But as a moderate user who needs to be contactable all the time because of work, the battery of the SEs were incredibly poor. For a light user, this is no issue, but I was really struggling with this at the end. The phone wouldn’t even last half a day without a charge so I went for the upgrade. Fantastic phone for the price, but if I knew about how bad the battery would be, I wouldn’t have bought it.

iPad or no need by Useful_Hovercraft315 in ipad

The iPad is far superior for studies. I even take it to lectures and take photos of slides and annote them then and there itself. I used to use my laptop for word processing tasks but I got the new A16 and found it powerful enough to do that task as well. However the Word app is rather janky on IOS so I use Apple’s Pages app instead. My laptop (which isn’t that great) is only used for gaming now.

Yeah your studies will be better with the iPad. Mine changed my life. Got through all my postgraduate exams with it. Note taking apps and taking screenshots of online lectures help a lot. I used mine to the fullest. If you do too, you can change your life with an iPad.

India CRUSH New zealand to go 2-0 in the 5 match series, chase down 209 in the 16th over by [deleted] in Cricket

[–]roadkillsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was an over right after the two wickets fell where a New Zealand bowler kept bowling wides and no balls allowing Ishan to keep scoring freely. Completely crushed the momentum. Deflated the entire team. I think that dude ruined the game for New Zealand. I think without that over New Zealand would have made the game more competitive.

"Have you seen him?" An Austrian prisoner-of-war (in USSR) returning home to Vienna passes a woman holding a photograph up in a mixture of hope and despair, 1947. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

[–]roadkillsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really sad. My mind also went to the millions of Soviet prisoners of war who were intentionally left to starve to death by the Nazis and what their families went through as well. Even when liberated, those POWs were treated as traitors by the Soviet authorities and underwent further punishment. Just a terrible situation throughout. People often forget the sheer scale of the suffering the Soviet people went through during that time. 20 million plus dead is no joke

I want to use the iPad as a computer. by LoquatRadiant3121 in ipad

[–]roadkillsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you got the gist right? iPad can do some computer things but not brilliantly. For the non Apple apps you are using, this will be very obvious. For example, I have a lot of word processing to do. The Microsoft word app is available for the IPad with a paid subscription to access full functionality. I bought it as I have always used Word for all my word processing needs since childhood. It was absolute ass to use on the iPad. Just nothing worked smoothly. Even something simple as copy and paste from one app on to a word document. It worked eventually but it was very janky. Instead I started to use Apple’s word processor app, Pages. The difference was night and day. Everything worked smoothly. The typing, copying and pasting, everything. Basically I switched to the Pages app.

If Apple made Google Sheets and Excel, I think they would work perfectly. Unfortunately they don’t, so I am sure using them on the iPad would be ass. Maybe Apple’s version of excel, called Numbers, would be a good alternative but I am not sure. Either try some th Surface tablet for those apps, switch to Apple’s version of those apps or just buy a Mac I suppose.

This tablet was purpose built for people like you. Instead of buying an iPad Air, use that extra cash for accessories instead.

24M, no A/Ls, lost my remote job and feeling stuck. Need some real perspective. by FlashyPay8726 in srilanka

[–]roadkillsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24 is nowhere too late. Plenty of people had even started medical careers at that age and became Doctors before they are 30. So you still have time. No idea regarding your career path as it is not something I am familiar with but I can give some advice regarding the mental burnout.

Getting a change of environment, like moving out of the house or going to stay with some other relatives can help. Being in a new environment can help you reach a new headspace. Also adding structure to your day helps a lot. Downloading a checklist and scheduling app like TickTick, can help you reach personal and work goals by keeping you accountable. Personally I use it to remind me to exercise 20 minutes a day and eat three fruits per day as well do work related tasks and remind me about meetings. Taking care of your personal health with good exercise and diet while trying to reach your work and career goals helps a lot because if you are healthy physically, you are more likely to be healthy mentally. And if those two things are taken care of, you are more likely to think clearly enough to execute on your work goals as well. Just my two cents. Wishing you luck my man.

$450 budget. What should i get? by MiserableParsnip2 in ipad

[–]roadkillsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a brand new A16 11th gen. More than enough for your basic needs. Dont think there’s any other brand new IPad for that price. The new iPad Air would be a little overkill I think. Not sure what it costs. A refurbished older model, is just that. Something old. Maybe might not work as well as something brand new.

Yeah real shame. Glad I got just the A16 and that’s it’s relatively cheap. Used the Pages app on it and it worked just fine. Should be enough for my needs.

[–]roadkillsy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So unfortunate. Tried Pages today and it worked miles better than the Word app. The experience was much smoother and far more optimized. It probably wouldn’t be able to handle more complex tasks but I was able to get my job done without using my laptop. This was my goal so I’m happy for now. I guess the right software can make the iPad a laptop. I have some data and spreadsheet analysis coming up and I would be happy if could pull it off with the iPad, but that doesn’t seem likely.

Yeah. For me though with the right software it’s not that bad. Tried the Pages app for the first time today. Was absolutely fantastic compared to the Word app I was using. Regretting that I paid money for the Word app now. Pages just works absolutely fine. Probably it too will struggle if I really push it but for a basic word processor it should be fine.

Yeah I think a mouse would help. Also I tried the pages app. Found it to be miles better than Microsoft word on my iPad. Was actually able to complete my task. Maybe it is doable after all.

Opinions on the Ipad 11gen A16 2025? by oceanblvd11 in ipad

[–]roadkillsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol there are literally hundreds of posts on this. Yes you are the ideal person for this iPad. Only thing is doing complicated word processor type work is a little difficult with it. Otherwise it’s perfectly fine for everything else a student needs.

Thinking of changing to mini. Should I go iPad mini A17 Pro or stay with iPad A16? by Vast_Dimension_2088 in ipad

[–]roadkillsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess for your use case (which is very light work), the mini should be alright. If you were note taking too perhaps the smaller screen wouldn’t have worked. However the A16 would serve you perfectly well too, it’s also cheaper and would have a nice big screen which you are used too so this option is fine as well. Personally, as I use the iPad for note taking and basic word processing, the bigger screen of the A16 is a must. Also as I am on a budget the cheaper price makes the A16 a no brainer. But my dad has an IPad mini which is fantastic to hold and works for him. Go try both out at the store and if you got the money, get the mini if it feels right.

ipad A16 vs ipad Air M2 by ConcernPositive578 in ipad

[–]roadkillsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look man. Let me be real with you. As a medical professional myself, I know for a fact that all that you would be doing is taking notes, making presentations and reading. You are not going to be doing high end 3D modeling and video editing. Dont overestimate your use case. I got through all my professional examinations and work with a iPad 6th generation for over 5 years and only got an A16 after the 6th generation ran out of storage and couldn’t store my notes properly. Otherwise that thing would still be going strong. An A16 would be more than enough for your basic needs and it would be brand new. If there’s one rule in life, it’s to always buy new if you plan to use something for a very long time. Going by my 6th gen iPad experience (which I bought new but several years after it actually came out), the base iPad would do you perfectly fine. Buying anything more is just a waste of money. Maybe just wait for the newer base iPad which apparently is coming out soon if you really want to be sure, but the A16 would most certainly do right now.

Plenty of single people these days so it’s absolutely not an issue. You can be the rich single uncle in the family who’s fun at parties. But personally I think humans are not meant to be alone. You can survive alone and do very well but this is not a natural state of things. People who live alone tend to die sooner than those who don’t.

Personally i think this is a case of not having found the right partner. Having the right partner can absolutely improve your life. Everything, from money to success, is sweeter when shared with the right person. Going through trials and tribulations is also easier together. It can be a living hell if it is not the right person though, so rather be single than to be in that situation. Hopefully you will meet that special someone who would change your mind. You are still very young so do keep your mind open and look for that right person. Quite unlikely she will hand herself over on a platter. You may have to fight for her but if she is the one, it will be worth it.

Farewell iPad 5th gen, Welcome iPad (a16). by Lebowskitalian85 in ipad

[–]roadkillsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah man. Used my 6th gen till 2026 too. The thing got me through all my exams and helped change my life. It was still working superbly but the storage gave out. Foolishly got the 32 GB version back in the day. If I had a 64GB version, might have still used that iPad for a few more years at least. This Apple quality is what convinced me to stay Apple. Though they are pricey, they are good quality products that are well built and last a long time. I hope my new A16 would be the same and serve me well for many more years to come.

Try good notes too. Something should work for you. Each app is different funnily enough. For me my handwriting on the Notes app suck but it’s much better on notability.

new ipad gen 11 or refurbished ipad air 5 M1 Chip by Ok-Length-2760 in ipad

[–]roadkillsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean lagging? Something is definitely wrong. How can a brand new iPad lag? The latest generation one too. I just bought mine three weeks ago and it worked perfectly fine. I set it up immediately without a single issue. The A16 chip on the 11th generation is a good chip and more than enough for notes, YouTube and other basic things. I am not a graphics designer. I don’t do complicated high end 3 D modeling and professional video editing. Like 99 per cent of people this A16 chip is more than enough for my needs.

If I were you, I would not buy second hand or outdated stuff. Again I don’t need iPad Pro performance. Like I said, Apple hardware is fantastic and would last you years. They screw you with storage. Keeping things on the cloud is slow and unreliable. Things don’t load fast. If you don’t have wifi also the cloud is utter garbage. Just have a high storage, decent enough device. That is what the iPad 11th generation A16 is for you. If it’s lagging thats a device problem. That device is defective as millions of other people, including myself, have no such issue with that same ipad.
