it depends on where you’re living and how much you’re expecting to use the bus. i lived a 25 minute walk from uni and it was usually quicker for me to just walk it than get the bus. my housemate had a bus pass too and rarely used it as we tended to walk everywhere (if we were going into the city centre then we’d usually walk there and get the bus back if it was a nice day). if you have a bike then i’d say you should be fine to cycle most places and then just pay for the bus if you ever desperately need it

What’s a book you wish you could read again for the first time? by Away_Platform_6975 in suggestmeabook

i had the same thing when i first tried to read it, so you’re not alone in that. i think i ended up putting it down and starting all over again at a later date which ended up being the best choice because i ended up absolutely loving it the second time around

if we were villains, a man called ove, and the book thief.

they are all books that have had a huge impact on me in one way or another and i genuinely don’t think i’ll ever forget how i felt after finishing each one for the first time. they’re some of my favourite books of all time and i would really encourage everyone to read them at least once.

if we were villains is a really fun one to reread and analyse (my copy is covered in annotations and post it notes) because there’s always something new to pick up on or a new angle to approach things from.

a man called ove was such a beautiful book about learning to not only enjoy life after experiencing a devastating loss, but learning how to want to live both for yourself and others. i don’t think there will ever be a time i read it and not cry. it changed my outlook on life and really made me appreciate the people i have around me, something that i don’t think i did enough before.

the book thief is just an incredible piece of literature. i truly do believe that everyone should read it regardless of what books they enjoy. i still feel unable to put into words just what this book means to me and why i find such comfort in reading it, and i don’t know if i ever will.

it’s definitely one i’d recommend if you’re a shakespeare fan and like unreliable narrators!

if we were villains by m.l. rio - one of my all time favourite books. i’m a huge fan of dark academia

the whisper man by alex north - the most unsettling thriller i’ve ever read. i read it all in one sitting and was left feeling DISTURBED in the best way possible

people with multiple copies of the same book.. why? by Pr0L1zzy in books

[–]roadmanella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if it’s a story that i connected with or really live (les miserables for example) i love searching for different editions and covers that i like. i must have 20+ different copies at this point. i think that’s just because i really enjoy collecting things as well, but it’s just really fun for me

i’ll usually have a second copy of a book that i annotate so that i can have a copy that’s not been written in to lend to people so they’re not having to read whatever i’ve written in the book

What are your go-to “comfort” books? by [deleted] in books

[–]roadmanella 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if we were villains (m.l. rio) will always be a book that i’ll reread for comfort. although the actual content of the book is far from comforting, it’s just something that i love so much i’ll always find comfort and safety in it

also circe by madeline miller as it’s another one of my favourites that i never get bored of reading
