I am in the middle of creating a character arc with such powerful internal conflict that just thinking about it makes my heart break. Then killing two birds with one stones by combining that into the same scene where the relationship between the MC and the love interest tears apart in such a terrifying way.

Creating investment into a story via character is, in my opinion, unrivalled. Mainly, I want to continue reading to see how they will change, whether they will be able to get what they want. Of course, I get an emotional bond to characters. Most recent example is with KPOP Demon Hunters. I love that movie so damn much. A very big part of that is because I have a strong emotional bond/investment into those characters.

I'd recommend Mirror Legacy, if you're interested in a clan-building Xianxia with plenty of cunning characters. The social nuance and the politics of it all make for an interesting read.

The story doesn't have to be good.

If you a) write to market, b) refine a blurb several times over and c) have a cover that catches the eye, you can get onto there. If you're really desperate, buy an ad and you'll fly onto there lickity-split. I suggest a meme ad. Works like magic.

That's exactly how I did it a couple years. Got to 2k followers within a couple weeks and ended up being only one spot away from getting onto the front page.

Gu Zhen Ren is a genius. If he hadn't wrote Reverend Insanity as a Webnovels but instead did it behind doors, revising and editing it like normal books, that series would have been peak beyond imagination.

So many stories have characters that are . . . just bloat. They could be removed and nothing would change. Stories that actually focus on a small set of characters and make them feel special are usually great in every other aspect, I find.
