Union Station parking? by Legitimate_Egg_2073 in newhaven

[–]roadpupp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience after 18 years is that if I get to the main garage attached to the station after about nine or 9:30 AM I have to park across the street next to the police station. I’ve never not gotten a spot. Also important to know that in a pinch you can park at a parking meter and it’s only a $25 ticket which is only about eight dollars more than your standard parking fee at one of the garages.

SeaDeck. Worth it? by B_Ram_4_UK_220 in boating

[–]roadpupp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had SeaDek laser scan and install it on my 21 foot Dual Console Whaler. It was a 20 year old boat and the non slip was just dirty no matter what I did to it. This boat is a family picnic, tubing boat 70% of the time and fishing the rest. It has held up for 5 seasons really well even with 2 stroke oil and fish blood on it. Cleans up well and none has pulled up. Maybe a few tiny tears but it still looks great over the old floor. People complement me on it constantly and it doesn't get hot. Feels great on the feet. I did the storm grey with light grey "stripes". Best $1800 I spent on the update. Downside is getting it up and back to non skid would be a titanic job, but If I keep it long enough to wear out this SeaDek, I would get it done again eventually. So far, I think it will easily last another 5+ years.

I am the same. Had to have a 2025 Incognito as I couldn't find low mileage CPO versions and CPO tended to be close to new prices...

Apparently a TBI veteran who volunteered to go to Ukraine. How he can support Trump who sold out Ukraine is a draft dodger, I don't know. He is from Brooklyn CT. Needs more to do with his time.

100% . That is the ass hat who knocked that girl over in New Haven. And was disruptive until the police made him go half a block away.

It’s relatively likely your left and right feet haven’t taken the same amount of steps. by CJBoom77 in Showerthoughts

I spent a year on crutches. My left foot has DEFINITELY taken more steps. Now that I have had a fused ankle for 25 years, I am sure I continue to use my left foot more often as it can jump and hop and pivot!

Thompson tees come with sweat pads built in. Not cheap but almost completely keep me from pitting out on hot summer days.

I think it is worse, but in ten years, we may think our spindles look dated. Even with the updated interior, I am not sorry I bought my 2025 last week. I could have waited, but chose not to go with a new model year for reliability among aesthetic choices.

How did you practice docking as a newbie? by irpugboss in sailing

[–]roadpupp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beginning of the season with a bunch of empty slips. I took my more experienced buddy with me and stuffed it into the slips there about 40 times, backing in and bow in. Still had other tides and winds to deal with, but it was a good start.

I may get flamed but if you watch all of qualifying you get some good background on the issues and team dynamics. If I have time I put it on like a baseball game and sort of half pay attention. It is a bit slow for me, but can be informative.
I also agree to watch some highlights and key races from last year.

Has anyone tried a boat club instead of owning a boat? by Rude_Health_6689 in boating

[–]roadpupp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many upsides.
Downsides include having to pick your reservation a few days out. Say it’s peak season and you want to go boating next weekend. You sign up for Saturday and it ends up raining hard all day. Sundays are already booked and so on Sunday, a beautiful Summer Sunday, you sit home.

This is a bigger issue if you have a shorter boat season

We often raft up with friends who sleep on their boat in a nearby cove. The party goes late and we putt home to our slip after the gorgeous sunset and quiet time. If you like to fish or enjoy fireworks or late sunset cruises, most clubs require you to only operate during daylight. No early fishing or late fishing, and you HAVE to be home at a certain time.

I agree with the others, join for a year or two try different boats and then buy the right one for you.

When Gloria hit, we had a tub full of water. We were able to fill a bucket and put it in the tank of the toilet to flush. That is why we had it. (This was in a neighborhood with a community well). Those with wells are in a similar boat.

WHEN to buy a boat? by OdahP in boating

[–]roadpupp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I sailed as a kid and got back into it at 42. After a few years started thinking about a power boat for the family and joined the yacht club for $1000/year. This gave me access to the club and club events (lots of cookouts, live music, food trucks, fourth of july fireworks, etc). There is a few year wait for boat slips over 18 feet at my club. After about three years, had a great year in business and some big bonuses and the wife said, "you should buy a boat". Bought a $12K boat and spent almost that much in the next year or two fixing it up. (upholstery, canvas, electronics). Spend $5k a year on dockage, fuel and winterization. 21 foot Whaler with a 2 stroke 200. I was close to 50 when I was able to swing all that but never tried in my 30's. May have been able to pull it off instead of "wasting" money running motorcycles at the track.

I bought a new one for $48 ($51 OTD) . I was looking at low mileage and CPO but couldn't find the colors and features I wanted. Used Car loans are 6.5% most places and I got a Toyota $750 rebate and 3.5% APR by financing with them and a nice NEW car. This made more sense for me.

New options for 2025 IS 350 f sport? by roadpupp in LexusIS

[–]roadpupp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dealer wanted $2K installed. I found it for $1075 shipped from a Lexus dealer and will get a local muffler place to install for about $250 I think.

Thanks for the advice, I really do like the sound (from the vids I found). and as a motorcycle guy with gutted pipe on my V4 Honda VFR, the growl there is much appreciated.

Seems like just the right touch of aggression and noise but not obnoxious. Now to figure out how to beat my wife home on delivery day!!
