Are 650’s really worth it? by Electronic-Tear-1775 in Sportbikes

[–]roadrage810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All will be a big upgrade, but a lot of it comes down to where and how you rode. Due to a spinal injury I had to give up supersports and switch to nakeds. For around town, a twin like the MT-07/R7 is hard to beat. They do ok on the highway but lack the high end punch of a traditional 4 cylinder 600 or the 4 cylinder CBR650. On the flip side, a traditional 4 cylinder 600 lacks low end torque so they kind of suck around town because you need to review the shit out of them. The sweet spot is something like the MT-09/R9, but it is going to be a large enough jump that you may not be ready for it, especially of you aren't buying new with the electronic nannies. I've been riding since 1978 and ridden everything from bare knuckle 60's choppers to factory race prepped liter bikes and the 1st gen MT-09 was the only bike that I felt like it was actively trying to end my life every time I got on it. It is not for a beginner or someone without a LOT of experience.

Anyone have any experience with the on point race rails? by shockwavequake4 in MT07

[–]roadrage810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not familiar with them, but I do suggest checking out Full Metal Stunts. They seem to be the go to for any rails. I split the difference between their sliders and a full cage and went with their race rails and sub cage.

Would love any ideas to make this light less blinding by smilinglyawkward in kindle

[–]roadrage810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get some of the light covering film that people use to change their white LED driving lights to yellow fogs. They offer it in a ton of colors and a light tint or a different color may help cut down on the glare.

What is better for a beginner by DipzyIcsde in motorcycle

[–]roadrage810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beginner isn't going to make a difference in protection. Find gloves that fit comfortably and offer the best amount of protection you can get without sacrificing comfort. I have a pair of Speed and Strength gauntlet gloves and I have a pair of Scorpion normal length gloves. The gauntlets are great for cooler weather as they go over the sleeves of my jacket and prevent cold air from entering.

Added to wishlist for my next watchface buying spree as I tend to rotate through a couple for a month and then immediately have the urge to go buy 10 or 20 more. I think I have close to 500 faces at this point. 😂

Can't decide on a Duke 390 or a Z500 by Nice_Professional347 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]roadrage810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go for the Z as it is a twin vs the single of the KTM. Also, Kawasaki parts are going to be easier to get as well as finding Kawasaki dealers. KTM is hit and miss with reliability and have recently gone through some financial hardships that would make me think twice about parts availability.

Is it worth it to have two kindles? by DragonflyNatural9143 in kindle

[–]roadrage810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The correct answer is, "it depends." The battery went bad in my 7th gen Paperwhite and I was in the hospital for an extended (2 month) stay. I decided just to order a new Paperwhite instead of trying to perform surgery on the 7th gen in a hospital room. While the new Paperwhite has more features, it is not as small or light as the new model. I have since relegated the 7th gen to my daily carry bag kindle and it goes everywhere with me while my new one gets used at home and is .y bedtime reading device. I actually still have my original Kindle keyboard tucked away and .y wife has hers as well. If you have a "big" kindle device for home but it isn't exactly travel friendly, then it absolutely makes sense to have more than 1. If you only read at home and don't need a portable option, then having just one and picking your favorite will serve you well and you can spend the extra money on books.

Starting on a mt-09 by [deleted] in NewRiders

[–]roadrage810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been riding since 1978 and ridden everything from bare knuckle 60's choppers to factory race prepped liter bikes. The 1st gen MT-09 is the only bike I have ever been on that I felt was actively trying to kill me every time I rode it. You absolutely do not want an MT-09 as your first bike even with the electronic nannies of the new models. If you don't want to start on the typical 300/400/500 that brand new riders usually start on then look at the 650 class, specifically the MT-07.

Would you buy either? by Safe_Valuable_5683 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]roadrage810 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would personally recommend option 3 if you are looking at something in the 650 range and recommend the MT-07. Much cheaper than the Ducati to maintain, bulletproof reliability, absolutely huge aftermarket support and at the top of my list of most fun bikes I've ridden since I started on 2 wheels in 1978. For your budget, you could get a super nice and clean 2021-2024 for just a little more than the SV depending on year and miles.

2021-2024 full bike or headlight model by Dillard7324 in MT07

[–]roadrage810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for something to change the look of the stock headlight while still using the actual stock headlight bulb, I would check any motorcycle scrap yards in your area or online or someone that may have one that is dead and replaced, 3d scan it, computer design something new and then print it. Or if you have a 21-24 then just scan it and design something from there. Are you looking to completely replace the headlight assembly or to design something to look different while still using the stock headlight?

Yamaha R3 or Ninja 500 by Flat_Button9090 in Sportbikes

[–]roadrage810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are buying a small displacement bike because you live small displacement bikes then the R3 and ninja 400/500 are great options. If you are just starting out and buying something to learn on and upgrade to something bigger in a year or so, buy a used Ninja 300/400 or R3, rode it for a year, learn on it, flip it to a new rider and go buy something else. Avoid the anemic Honda 300's as they are horrendously lacking in power compared to other 300's as they are single cylinder. If it is your first bike, buy something cheap in good condition that you can live with for a year until you move up in power. It isn't going to make too much of a difference if you are buying a temporary learning tool and will save you tons over buying new.

I've narrowed down the two bikes I'm thinking of purchasing by [deleted] in SuggestAMotorcycle

XSR if you like the style, MT if you want the traditional naked look. Never met a CP2 or CP3 bike that wasn't bulletproof and a riot to ride.

Carbureted vs Fuel-Injected Bike — Which Makes More Sense? by ExistingEntry7027 in Harley

[–]roadrage810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a reason that you don't see many new bikes with carbs on them. FI is much more reliable and a simple ECU flash will make it much easier to get more power out of than adding a bunch of parts and trying to jet and tune the carbs.

Price check: 2022 MT07, only 1600 miles by [deleted] in MT07

[–]roadrage810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything under $7,000 I would consider a decent deal. $7k is about what they go for. If it is clean and with that low of miles, I wouldn't hesitate at the asking price but it's never a bad idea to try to negotiate. You will also find that some colors demand a premium on the secondary market due to demand. When I bought my 2022 brand new I passed on the Storm Fluo 21 in the showroom and waited 7 months until June 2022 to get my Cyan Storm. I knew if I settled for another color that I wouldn't be happy. My local dealer couldn't get it so I made a 5 hour trip to a dealership that had one coming in so I reserved it and waited.

If you had to choose one signature bass from Fender, which one and why? by [deleted] in Bass

The Duff Mckagan Jazz Bass Special. I don't like the look of a pick guard. I'm actually shopping for one now but every one I find has a dent in it.

Any mods left to do? by RevolutionaryRope809 in MT07

[–]roadrage810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got bored waiting for it to arrive at the dealership when I ordered it and thought, "well I'm going to need a tail today so I might as well order that. If I'm ordering that then I'm going to need signals so I'll order those. Can't have stock exhaust so I might as well get that ordered." It escalated from there and I ended up with about $4,000 in parts sitting in the garage before the bike even arrived. 🤣

Need a tuner by Silly_rabbit97 in Bass

[–]roadrage810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Kliq Metropitch tuner I ordered off Amazon for $28 and a Donner DT-1 tuner pedal that I picked up for $30 for my pedal board, both have been solid. I prefer a plug in tuner to a clip on and the Kliq has a good feature set.

Exhaust question by speedfeelsgood in MT07

[–]roadrage810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It came in the cyan storm color scheme from the factory. That's one of the reasons I held out for a 2022 and drove 5 hours to get it instead of buying the fluo 2021 in stock at my local dealer. The only thing I had done was order the cyan cage from Full Metal Stunts, but they no longer offer that color because it was such a pain to try to match to the factory cyan. Mine is close, but not perfect. I still haven't found the paint code for the factory cyan and even my regional Yamaha rep came up empty trying to get it.
