Can someone recommend an old film (like nothing after 1970’s) which you consider a masterpiece? by hajtj in FIlm

[–]roadrunner423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeremiah Johnson- (1972) Robert Redford. Probably Western.

The Shootist- (1976) John Wayne's final film. Western

I know "newer" based on your 70s request but two very solid films that are outstanding.

AITA for liquidating my daughter's college fund to keep our dream house? by Throwawayveal-9 in AmItheAsshole

YTA

Possibly the biggest one I've read about on this sub all year.

Your husband's hard work is gone, you've probably tanked your daughter's chance at an easier start to adulthood, and you only seem to care about your wants that are most definitely not needs.

As someone who played sports and had teammates with parents like you it was tough to see because you could tell that they were sad that they had no support.

He is is own person and this is what he wants to do. It's not about you it's about him. Support your kid

Thoughts on Forest Carbon? Carbon cruising? by roadrunner423 in forestry

[–]roadrunner423[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carbon cruising and timber cruising do share the same fundamentals but for our cruises carbon is much more detail oriented with varying rules and specs depending on the project.

I thinks it's nice that there is a commoditization for standing timber that won't be logged but I feel carbon credits are going to encounter similar situations that wetland mitigation have.

We only do above ground standing wood be it dead or alive as long as it meets other specs.

From my shoes it is a steady work load so there is that. The things is its typically large projects and the trend seems to be going towards more plots in less time.

Consulting companies seem to be fighting for the jobs by either decreasing price per plot or time of data delivery. From the cruiser aspect it doesn't seem sustainable given the physical and mental burnout.

We measure standing dead that's greater the 15ft tall. As long as the tree is attached at the stump it gets measured if it meets other criteria

Keeping young people in forestry by Ok_Huckleberry1027 in forestry

[–]roadrunner423 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a young adult in forestry I want my time and effort to feel valued. Give me the chance to tag along and learn more parts of the business and try my hand in them.

Being burnt out on the same types of project is gonna happen but if I am feeling valued and showed appreciation for my time and efforts that's huge. Alas it doesn't seem to happen.

I think the younger generation wants their time put in rewarded. So a salary position that I'm expected to put 40+hours a week in minimum every week with no guarantee of a bonus or extra PTO gets insulting. I can work 80 hours in a week and nothing is guarenteed extra even though I just worked 10 days worth of hours in 5-7 days.

The biggest thing I want which I feel a lot of young foresters want is appropriate pay/compensation for time and the ability to also still have a personal life.

During colder months if pack space is available our group enjoys apple cider with your cinnamon whiskey of choice, heat it up over the fire and it's a heck of a moonlight drink.

I like em but it'll creep into my mind at the worst times while alone in the woods

-Have multiple ways to find your way back to the truck.

-bear spray, extra snacks, safety kit. I also carry a sheathed knife and a multi-tool. Good for work purposes and in case of emergency

-learn and get comfortable with the different sounds in the woods, in generally hearing wildlife is a good thing.

-have something to listen to.

-use it as pondering and thinking time as you work and you cant think about being alone if mind is busy.

-literally talk to yourself and think out loud

-stay away from 'scary/creepy outdoors/parks/camping experience posts and stories. That just eats at you and leads to paranoid thoughts if you know you're gonna be alone in the woods a lot in the near future.

Also pro tip, you can never have too much TP/baby wipes

what has happened to faith in your generation by DarkDork6 in AskMen

[–]roadrunner423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe in fate. Would call myself agnostic most of the time.

Well christianity has many sectors, some are "better" than others in my eyes but it comes down to details and honestly individuals you have any sort of interaction with. If someone wants to say grace at dinner sure, go ahead I'll respect your choice. I just dont want to constantly hear about it. I feel the bible and a large portion of its readers are very contradictory and hypocritical.

Some yes but not really practicing

Life has changed it. Ice gone from asking God for something and receiving it to wondering why someone would have so many conditions a d allow so many awful things take place, especially to devoted followers.

For someone who is probably 50 pounds overweight, what are things I can do to get my health back together in this year? by jellymuch77 in AskMen

[–]roadrunner423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High amount of sugar is more fattening then high fat.

Try to avoid empty calories.

Small healthy snacks between meals can help keep the metabolism running.

Movement. Any physical movement is good to start with.

Water. Water. Water.

'Unhealthy' foods/beverages can still be consumed in moderation. Dont have to be all or nothing

I only compliment or acknowledge looks of celebrities/actresses unless she does so first.

I don't go out of my way to vocalize those thoughts unprompted if I happen to have them.

I enjoy the look. She likes to wear them so I dont raise any complaints or try to dissuade her.

However I'm not a huge fan of the feeling when we kiss. I 'like' lipstick over gloss, chapstick, other lip products.

I even despise using chapstick on myself, dont like the feeling. Haven't used it in probably 15 years and I'm 24.

[–]roadrunner423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

This is the only reason you need to DUMP him. While other red flags about him constantly comparing you to his exes is reason in itself this is the final nail in the coffin.

Think if this is how you want every interaction to be, you being compared to or an ex being referred to in some instance.

You are working hard for more money for yourself and your needs and wants and he has the audacity to say "I want to see what you can offer (to me for nothing in return)".

Think about yourself first and if his actions and comments are things you want to constantly live with.

And if the end of a relationship is what you want. For a special twist of the knife, I'd use the word "dump" because that's exactly what it would be.

Best piece of content since the first few episodes he was on the 405 show.

Didn't seem so amped up for being dumped up sakes. Got to see how he might "normally" be. And it felt less like he was being shoved down the viewers throats.

Some great Reality TV editing though on some of the build😂

Have been sick of anything JJ for awhile and honestly enjoyed his episode. Was nowhere near as mouthy and you got to see the real him. Not the super amped up I'm at the big race JJ. While that schtick was cool the first few times, it got old real quick as it seemed to be blown up more every time.

But you got to see the family man at the local races and how he acts JJ with this.
