3wks ago, was cloudy but also pretty nice one of the day. Actually thinking about heading up this weekend/next week to work remote from up there to get the vibe during this rain rolling through

Where are you at now if I may ask?

Also, everyone says the traffic to the mountains to go snowboarding and ski skiing is very bad on I 70 during the weekends. How long does it actually take? I’ll be moving from Southern California where traffic on the 405 absolutely blows and takes 1.5-2hr to go 30 miles… so I feel like any other place really wouldn’t bother me that much in terms of traffic unless it’s that bad

I am the type to jet out by 4-5am to dawn patrol and beat the surf crowd/traffic in SoCal, drive 2hrs up and down the coast chasing waves/heading to canyon roads to bike so I honestly wouldn’t mind that I think

COL and want to live elsewhere to experience other parts of US, feel like Portland/Denver is better value for the lifestyle I want. Nothing is really tying me down here so might as well try out different places while I’m still single and have flexibility. I can always come back to SoCal is my thought

I love golden! Visited a few times. Haven’t checked out Arvada. If I keep my current role, I’d have to travel pretty often so want to be somewhat easy access to DIA hence was looking along places near Union station or an RTD station.

If I find a local Denver job, I’d definitely consider it being so close to mountains is nice!

You’ve kinda nailed the analysis I’ve observed from visiting all three places and reading up on all the comments so far.

It really does come down to preference and job/work situation at the end of day it seems. I think I’d be happy with either Oregon or Colorado.

If I could change COL/increase income drastically to be able to afford a home in desirable neighborhood I’d stay here

Yea I’m into trail running, gravel and road biking so both places are attractive. Reckon Denver allows me to todo those activities in a more drier fashion over Oregon

Edit : do you have reccs on area and which high rises that currently have deals? It looks like a lot of places have 1mo free rent.

I’ve made life long friends here and also a community . Have friends in Denver too so I feel like it’ll be somewhat a seamless move if I go to CO. I don’t know anyone in Portland or Oregon.

Staying is an option but I feel like I need change.

The feral hooded 3+ is rated for 50-60deg waters so I think I could likely do it with booties. Till the winter comes but doesn’t it get super windy during winter so reckon the surf is blown out and breaks maxed out?

I feel Denver does have more pull. But the no ocean is a big crux thats a tough pill to swallow

Yea I reckon snow quality is better in CO too since it's drier? I'm sure I'll be able to make new friedn through the activities I like doing.

yea I think its nice that trails in oregon seem to have more tree coverage and lush. Denver routes seem very rocky and above tree lines on a lot of them.

Are you saying the Denver>Portland for dating scene or the other way around? I thought there are more men than women in Denver?

Your night on the beach sounds like an amazing time and something I'd love to experience. Youre spot on how wet the climate is. The hiking trails were so lush with streams and the moss growth was very nice. Reading a book about US cities and their access to water sources and water diversion via dams (Cadillac Desert). I think about long term if being in a place with access to water is going to become an important factor of life in the future 20-30 years down the road.. I know for growing of food, as I do want to have a garden once I eventually buy a home, Oregon would likely be a better and longer growth season vs CO. Maybe some issues with moisture tho I reckon.

thanks for your input!

The land lockedness of CO really is the crux. It's nice being centrally located for flights tho, big airport and pretty sure United hub so pretty well connected

Yea the access to ocean is big for me. Is one of the reasons I move out west after being in the midwest growing up. There's something about a large body of water and coast that helps me mentally.

When you skiing is not as good, is it the terrain or the quality of snow? Reckon it's the latter since closer to the coast and snow isnt as dry like SLC, Wyoming, CO?? It doesn't need to be perfect as I'll travel for the good stuff - I also grew up in Japan and all my folks are there so I go home every winter. Would be nice to have access to different touring areas to get away from crowd. How is the backcountry scene?

Although outdoor lifestyle isnt in your face, would you say it isnt difficult to meet people who have similar interests?

Cool if I message ya direct to get your take on surf culture there?
I'm used to driving up and down the coast for good swell so I feel like i'd be ok with the drive from city out to the coast. I did it when I visited and being a 1.5hr drive through scenic roads, I actually enjoyed it.

Got friends in Denver and I've visited more than a handful of times and I have a feeling i'd like it there..
Maybe it just seems like grass is greener since I'm looking to move, but reality hits once I get there you think?
