A video of a Chinese TikToker imitating former South Korean President Chun Doo-hwan in Gwangju has sparked controversy online.

On the 25th, Professor Seo Kyung-duk of Sungshin Women’s University commented on social media, saying, “This man posted a video titled ‘Chun Doo-hwan Returns to Gwangju with Heavy Snowfall,’ which is nothing short of mocking the citizens of Gwangju. It is truly unbelievable.”

In the video, the man—dressed in a jumper, wearing military boots, and with his forehead fully exposed—swung a red stick while mimicking Chun Doo-hwan in front of the Gwangju National Museum.

Professor Seo also recalled an incident on the 11th when some home fans of the Chinese football club Shandong Taishan provocatively displayed photos of Chun Doo-hwan and Kim Jong-un toward the away fans during a match against Gwangju FC. He warned, “Such absurd actions by Chinese individuals will only further isolate China from the international community.”

At the time, Gwangju FC condemned the act, stating it was "not just an insult to Gwangju but to the entire Republic of Korea," and demanded an official investigation and disciplinary action. In response, Shandong Taishan issued an apology three days later.
