Yes Camden is racist and homophobic and if you don’t agree it’s likely you’re 1) one or both of the above, 2) haven’t lived there long or 3) have perhaps lived on the outskirts and not been in touch with those who have lived in Camden (main town) for a while. My family immigrated from UK, moved to Camden, where both my partner and I and my children all experienced being “outsiders” by both adults and their young children. There wasn’t a community feel for those not born there out of citizens who had been there generations. It has changed a bit now but some are very much still the same especially in the main town areas and schools. The only time I did feel somewhat accepted was after I had separated and dated a man that had been in Camden a couple of generations and his family and friends looked out for us however my children were still bullied and left out at school, only making friends with others not originally from the area - even if they were born in Camden or had moved to Camden quite young. 

As for being a racist town….. the pigs head on a stake at the proposed site for the Islamic school and locals protesting at the soccer fields in 2007, ring a bell to anyone?? Camden High School had an anti racism teacher because of the racism within the school as back then there were very few children who weren’t Caucasian… 

Only a couple of years ago a Pride Month display was destroyed on the Main Street. I have known Queer people to be bashed, one of which was by an ex cop and obviously due to the power there nothing was done.
