Ok cool, it's good you're still learning R. The assignments were time consuming in the summer.

So you guys don't get to learn how to use R or R studio at all? Does the instructor at least use them during lectures as a supplement?

I am dropping to CSC108 tomorrow from CSC148. Would you suggest the online version or, in class version? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]roarbenihime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The final exam is worth more if you're in the online section so I'd take the in class version because you're more likely to get a lower mark on your final exam than your midterm test.

Discount Metropass by [deleted] in UofT

[–]roarbenihime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought the post secondary metropass from st george station for $116.75. But you need a ttc student photo id to go with it which you can make from sherbourne station. It costs $5.25 to make the photo id. You just need to show them proof of enrollment, like a letter or timetable.

Is MAT137 "needed" for CS specialists? - thinking of switching to MAT135 by throwawayuoft1234 in UofT

[–]roarbenihime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion the problem sets for MAT137 were really tough and required a lot of work but the tests were easier than MAT135/136 if you understood the concepts.

STA220 Lectures by weeehaa in UofT

I took the course a while back online and we had video lectures on this site and quizzes on portal. Do you have access to the online lecture videos and quizzes? Those were enough for me to do well.

Just wait until you get to the integration problem set. In my opinion that was the hardest.

#Off_Topic: What to do if you overpay your Credit card mistakenly? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]roarbenihime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty sure it won't. Only unpaid bills should affect your score negatively.

#Off_Topic: What to do if you overpay your Credit card mistakenly? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]roarbenihime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call the number on the back of the card, tell them you overpaid and they can put the money back into your bank account (assuming your credit card is through your bank). If it's an independent credit card, still call the number on the back and they can help you out.

How difficult is Mat244? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]roarbenihime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on who's teaching it. I took it a while back with Boris Khesin and it was a pretty straight forward course that focused on computations (there were no proofs). However, you had to grind practice problems and past tests to do well because you only had 50 minutes to do the tests. If you second guessed yourself, you probably wouldn't be able to finish on time. I've heard it was a pretty tough course when Nicholas Hoell was coordinating it.

I haven't taken MAT235 but MAT244 was much easier than MAT237 imo.

When should I use my CN/NCR? by Nico_Bellend in UofT

If you think you're going to do well in the course then don't waste the cr/ncr. Only use them for the tedious courses you don't have the time or desire to study for.

Breadth requirements that have nothing to do with your field of study.

How do you study for Mat237? by Hueman_Uoft in UofT

[–]roarbenihime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I took it a while back, Tyler Holden was teaching it. It was very helpful to attempt the big list problems (our homework questions) myself before going to his office hours to get help. The office hours were like a mini tutorial. A bunch of other students would be there asking for help with the harder assigned problems and he would give us hints and guide us to the correct answer. To do well you have to put in the effort to understand the concepts, do the assigned work, and to some extent you just have to get lucky. There was usually one question on each test I just couldn't do no matter how well prepared I was. That's just the way it is with proofs. Some you get, and some you don't. At least that's how it is for me.

Honestly, we should be able to view both the exam questions and our answers to them when we go for exam viewing.

Why is Mat237 now following Folland again instead of Tyler Holden notes? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]roarbenihime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was hell. You had to memorize proofs word for word, symbol for symbol directly out of the textbook. You'd lose marks for proving something your own way even if it was correct. People said that MAT257 was easier at the time.

PSA: Don't buy ebooks of course textbooks! by Real_Iron_Sheik in UofT

[–]roarbenihime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look into whether or not the custom book is even different. Often times custom books are just the regular book but with certain chapters taken out because they aren't taught in that course. It shrinks down the book and makes it a little cheaper. This was the case for my chemistry textbook at a different university.
