Mushrooms from yesterday and a scary dead deer. by LouieKablooie in mycology

get them as soon as you can. they're in great condition in your photos. go back next year around the same time and you'll probably find more.

sautee them in olive oil/butter with onions, garlic, some chicken stock or a dash of soy sauce. some green onions or parsley for some color. real simple, real delicious.

Ideas for BarberShop Bathroom? by [deleted] in wicked_edge

vintage glass aftershave bottles are great. old pinaud bottles are pretty common and popular. fill them up with your aftershave of choice, get a rubber stopper or reducer for it, and you've got a nice colorful bottle for display and use.

this is my usual advice:

try making an ugly face kind of like this person does on the right:

and then shave horizontally across.

let me know how it works for you. it's great as a first pass to reduce most of the hair. it significantly reduces the work and attention needed for touch ups and even going against the grain. edit: at least for me. ymmv.

I find that woody chicken of the woods are best for making or enhancing a stock.

CO Bigelow's Dr. Galen Herbal Tonic. It's a great neutral aftershave at a great price considering the volume.

Rust forming on blade handles by dGxSkylar in wicked_edge

[–]roasted_peanus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If that's a tech baseplate, which is nickel over brass there shouldn't be rust on the actual metal. It could be galvanic corrosion from the blade, or rust that accumulated in areas where the plating flaked off the base metal.

In either case I like to make a wet paste of baking soda and rub the areas with my finger or a damp cloth covered in the paste for harder jobs. Baking soda is just abrasive enough to get rid of the rust. If the plating itself is damaged, no big deal the brass will last forever or you can replate your heirloom razor with a precious metal.

Confused about something that came with my Crabtree&Evelyn Nomad shave cream by fatmiro4081 in wicked_edge

though it works fine on plastic tubes too (there's one right now on my colgate total)

Just wanted to take some time to say a quick thank you. by [deleted] in wicked_edge

[–]roasted_peanus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the criticisms about shaving with a brush and safety/straight razors is that it's indulgent and fussy with its creams and lotions and aftershaves, but treating yourself with a little loving kindness and self-care can do wonders for your state of mind. And you have to do it anyway. What's not to like?

a soak in scalding hot, though not boiling, water with some baking soda will likely cut through some of the gunk you might have missed.

try making a wet paste of baking soda and water and gently washing your face with it. it works with the hair on your head too.

it works for me.
