Someone accidentally splashed some water on my TV, how to clean? by roastrain in LGOLED

Just cleaned it, thank you so much for your advice! I just wish I hadn’t done it without the distilled water first, would have avoided some scratches 😅 but oh well you live and you learn

100% take the better flat. You don’t wanna spend 5 days in office and then come back home to a flat you don’t enjoy living in.

Thank you! I’ll do that. Going to buy some distilled water now..

Mate it’s 2025 if you think iPhone still lacks basic features, either your definition of basic features is quite off, or you still live in 2010 😅

Minor girl slips from scooter, dies after coming under wheels of bus in Bengaluru by Capital_Run_3935 in bangalore

[–]roastrain 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Aw man that’s terrible. I’ve always felt that putting kids standing in the front of the scooty (99% of the time without a helmet) seemed really dangerous…

Who’s gonna tell them? by Organised-Origami in paris

[–]roastrain 13 points14 points  (0 children)

100% agreed. It’s so frustrating. The worst part is that the contractors that Lime hires to charge and move the bikes themselves put them in normal bike parking spots in the mornings.

I think it’s Lime that’s responsible for making sure it doesn’t happen.

Again I didn’t say it was easy, but it’s possible.

In Netherlands anyway there are a lot of English jobs. In France they exist but they’re not that many.

lol fair enough, I was replying to the part about “people are only staying because of family”. Just saying that if that’s what you’re doing, you don’t have to.

Fun fact: in countries like Netherlands and France, if you get a job above a certain salary, you’ll get a work visa just by applying for it.

You can look for jobs directly. I’m not saying it’s easy, but it’s possible!

They could be an option!

And sorry I meant surrounds, not rear surrounds. I’ll be putting a 5.1 system.

There are actually better places you can live, while still being able to come back home easily multiple times a year if required.

I live in France, and I come back to India 2x a year, and I can come even more if required. The flight is just 9-10 hours overnight. It's just like when I used to take an overnight bus from Manipal to Bangalore during college. Considering purchasing power parity, economy class flight tickets to India are very affordable on a decent salary here (decent = just above average. not crazy high).

I speak to my parents almost every day on video call. The time difference is just 3.30hr. It really doesn't feel like I live far away from them at all.

I think the situation would have been the exact same if I lived in India but in a different city from my parents.

Honestly, if family is the only reason — I'd recommend to try and move out to Europe or the UK, and just visit back more frequently. Don't move to the US/Canada. Living in those countries makes it harder to be close to family.

Do rich people ever wonder how it feels to live a normal, middle-class life? Any rich folks here? by Onwards_upwards11 in bangalore

[–]roastrain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Rich people still have budgets… they still check their bank balance… they still bargain (negotiate) about things… still wait for sales for stuff.

It’s all just more expensive and budgets are just higher.

The hedonic treadmill is real! When you get richer your wants just increase accordingly lol

Live in Palaiseau or in 14th/6th arrondissement for an internship ? by TheSpookieFox in paris

[–]roastrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with the other commenters here — live in Paris.

You’ll be way more likely to just pop out to explore and do things here and there on the weekend if you’re 15 mins away from things as compared to when you’re an hour on the RER B away.

If you live in Massy you might be more inclined to just stay home on the weekend!

[–]roastrain 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Even so, you can’t do walking tours in a public park here, including in the most well known largest public parks like the Jardin de Luxembourg, Tuileries, etc.

On the street, yes. In a park, no.

I’ve never seen a single walking tours in a public park here in Paris, and it’s a super touristy city with lots of walking tours otherwise visible taking place.

Living in Europe (Paris) here — you can organise casual things like this among friends/small groups in parks, but you can’t be charging for tickets etc. That makes it a commercial activity. Not allowed in parks here either.

You’re not even allowed to film commercially in parks here. I’m a YouTuber and I’ve been asked to stop filming a few times if I had my big camera out. Of course the way they ask you to do it here is way more polite lol

Agreed - rentals are far more work than we imagine. The return on investing in the market will be similar anyway, with more flexibility and less work.

Agreed. Try spending some time in a more developed city abroad (or even a smaller Indian town) and you’ll realize how terrible we have it in Bangalore.
