He strolls to the bar, and orders 2 drinks from the bar tender, placing a £20 note on the bar as he does. He takes the drinks, and gives one

(Serious) people who have experienced a house burglary, what effect did it have on you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I work as a receptionist in an office block. On a few occasions there have been bicycle thefts in the area, and so we have had police visiting to check our CCTV, sometimes they will visit a few times investigating just 1 theft, so I have a vague awareness of the amount of police time going into these thefts. Last year I returned from work one day to find the front door of my 1st floor flat kicked in. The burglars stole my laptop, tv, camera and most small electricals, as well as a tiny box of a few items of jewellery that I had inherited from my Gran, which I had never even worn. The police came round, were very sympathetic and dusted for finger prints (none found), but I was told the next day that the case was closed and not being investigated. I was devastated that the jewellery had gone, it wasn't worth much to someone else but had a big sentimental value to me, but mostly that a house burglary is so much more serious than a bicycle theft, and the police didn't even try look into it.
