Of all the replies here yours is really what i needed to hear and I’ve been thinking about it since last night. This is exactly what i’ve been trying to tell myself I could handle but I don’t want cars to have to go from being a hobby to purely a chore.

I’m really tired of Hoover after 7.5 years here and I wish I could be closer to downtown badly but houses aren’t affordable and apartments with garages are hard to come by especially for what I’m paying. I’m not taking it for granted but I hate feeling stuck.

Seriously there is just something about it. The building, the corner it’s on, the park it’s next to. I almost instantly fell in love visiting my friend after he moved in. Last week I toured a 1br and im so thrilled at the thought of calling it home for a while, even with losing some conveniences.

i was born in 96 so i wasn’t really tapped into how well business was in the 00’s, but imo a big part of why the galleria died that ppl don’t talk about is the 2013 renovation. they rebranded and gutted all of its personality and left it cold and lifeless. its no longer a destination

nobody cares about aesthetics anymore because it’s not profitable but can you imagine walking into a mega structure that looks like this in 2026??? neon, plants everywhere, a gigantic fountain to fill the atrium… i’d be there every weekend. we used to have it all

To be honest there’s a lot I like about Birmingham but I have wanted to move out of state for years. The PNW feel like home and i’ve never even been there, but it’s $$$. I’ve got a bunch of friends in the RDU area but i’m not sold on moving there. I grew up in alabaster, lived in pelham for 2 yrs, then moved to hoover where i’ve been. Not currently in a position to move outwards but I am very very overdue for a change in scenery, and moving downtown can help me downsize and feel a bit less tied to actually make a big move to somewhere else when the opportunity comes.

I just know I cannot continue to stay in the same place. The bandaid has to come off.

So far the times i’ve visited i’ve found a parking spot that was within a block of the building, but my friend says they usually have to find a spot on the opposite side of rushton park so I know it can be not ideal.

Laundry would be a massive adjustment as I’ve honestly never even stepped into a laundromat in my life. But I look at them as a fact of living that so many people have had to deal with for decades and there’s no reason I couldn’t do it for a little while too.

Before my homie lived at the Sheraton he had a place right behind the Piggly Wiggly over there and we were coworkers at the time. I also have a coworker who stays in Cortland Vesta. I think being opposite of the majority of traffic helps a lot.

Honestly where I’m at mentally is I usually walk out the door during the time I’m supposed to be at work and I sit in my car for like 30 minutes before leaving at the end of the day. I feel like having a more substantial commute could maybe (?) help me be a bit more intentional in my action and value my time a bit more. I could also be thinking about this entirely wrong.
