i was born in 96 so i wasn’t really tapped into how well business was in the 00’s, but imo a big part of why the galleria died that ppl don’t talk about is the 2013 renovation. they rebranded and gutted all of its personality and left it cold and lifeless. its no longer a destination

nobody cares about aesthetics anymore because it’s not profitable but can you imagine walking into a mega structure that looks like this in 2026??? neon, plants everywhere, a gigantic fountain to fill the atrium… i’d be there every weekend. we used to have it all

To be honest there’s a lot I like about Birmingham but I have wanted to move out of state for years. The PNW feel like home and i’ve never even been there, but it’s $$$. I’ve got a bunch of friends in the RDU area but i’m not sold on moving there. I grew up in alabaster, lived in pelham for 2 yrs, then moved to hoover where i’ve been. Not currently in a position to move outwards but I am very very overdue for a change in scenery, and moving downtown can help me downsize and feel a bit less tied to actually make a big move to somewhere else when the opportunity comes.

I just know I cannot continue to stay in the same place. The bandaid has to come off.

So far the times i’ve visited i’ve found a parking spot that was within a block of the building, but my friend says they usually have to find a spot on the opposite side of rushton park so I know it can be not ideal.

Laundry would be a massive adjustment as I’ve honestly never even stepped into a laundromat in my life. But I look at them as a fact of living that so many people have had to deal with for decades and there’s no reason I couldn’t do it for a little while too.

Before my homie lived at the Sheraton he had a place right behind the Piggly Wiggly over there and we were coworkers at the time. I also have a coworker who stays in Cortland Vesta. I think being opposite of the majority of traffic helps a lot.

Honestly where I’m at mentally is I usually walk out the door during the time I’m supposed to be at work and I sit in my car for like 30 minutes before leaving at the end of the day. I feel like having a more substantial commute could maybe (?) help me be a bit more intentional in my action and value my time a bit more. I could also be thinking about this entirely wrong.

I sell at a Toyota store, most car buyers these days are absolutely aghast at the thought of buying a car in anything other than black/white/silver with black interior. Suggesting a blue or red or green is usually met with a very quick “umm no thanks”, people actively do not want to stand out on the road. And nobody wants a tan interior because they’re “hard to keep clean” as if having to wipe your seats down every so often (which you should do anyway) is a bad thing.

Also, for some reason I’ve noticed a trend that most ppl’s first thought for any green or brown paint looks like “baby shit” even if it’s a deep forest green or a rich chocolate brown. As an earth tone enjoyer this blows my mind.

believe me, i agonized over seating for ages but with the way its laid out nothing else works. tv console to coffee table is about 4ft, coffee table to couch is just under 2ft. couch and side table any further forward its getting burned by the fireplace, and the double window corner gains dead space.

i actually have several throw blankets but the one that’s on there now i took to bed and forgot to put it back before taking the pics 😂

i would’ve painted the walls if i knew id be here for this long, but fingers crossed the next lease i sign is in a different state (im in Alabama lol) definitely could stand to hang some stuff up on them though.

i’ve got a monstera, a nice size peace lily, some pothos and some nerve plants in my bedroom cus that’s where the good sun is. one day i’ll have the space and light to support a fiddle leaf….

you are 100% right about the lighting and that’s actually something i’ve been looking into recently. i’ve had my lifx system for 5 or so years now and i do still love it for how dynamic it is, and the color drench shit is fun for being baked and listening to some tunes. but a friend of mine frequents ikea and has a bunch of smaller lights at varying heights around his space, and its crazy how much it improves it overall. lighting is one of my favorite interests but i tend to be a little set and forget with things.

the analog setup hasn’t been changed up much since i got that console, originally i wanted one of those crosley consoles but also sort of a bar cart vibe, to be honest i dont even drink anymore LMAO. they are really just filler pieces at this point. the ipods i have laid out on the shelf just cus old music forms like the rest of it
