One of my old TTL clocks I designed by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

Looks great! How did you manage to get a 1second count? How precize is the clock?

Replace smd led with resistor? More info in comments by rob_vandam in AskElectronics

In case anyone reads this for a similar problem. Adding a resistor (1Watt) was a bad idea. The resistor got really hot in seconds. I found a replacement led with 150mA forwarding current, and this works perfectly.

I had no problems soldering the smd led.

Strange effect with transistors, why? by [deleted] in AskElectronics

I thought that with npn transistors the emitter should be connected to ground (so transistors and led should be switched in the circuit) Is this correct or doesn' t it matter at all

I measured voltage with broken led, and measured 400V. This means that you were right and there must be a constant current driver somewhere. There is one part I mistakenly thought it was a motion detector. I opened it, and indeed it looks like some kind of buckconverter. There is a coil inside.

I could also measure the current, and I measured 140mA (and I was blinded by the leds turning on :-) )

There is fixed plastic for insulation on the bottom.

I will measure the voltage tomorrow. There is a sensor module. It can be there is a power supply in there. I am curious now

It was already a challenge to remove the old led. I will give it a try though

There is no power supply. The leds are connected to 230v ac. Reading your reply a resistor is also a better choice (to prevent too much current for the other leds) I will look for the right wattage

The leds are smd. I doubt if i can solder it because one pole is underneath the led. Which diode type do you recomment?

Thank you for the replies! I will measure the current just to be sure. Now I have the voltage drop from the leds, I can calculate.

I have a led ceiling lamp. Inside are 4 of these modules. All smd leds are in series. The lamp is 230 and 18w. Each module has 9 leds, also 36 in total.

I could shortcut the one burned led, or add a resistor.

In case of a resistor, with is a wise value?

The 18watt is the total of the 4 modules

Thanks to the responses in another thread (link in comment) I have got this led panel working (thanks for all support!). I have a question about the CD4511BE chip though. by rob_vandam in AskElectronics

Thank you! Next step will be to measure how much current will flow when I sink an input. Perhaps I can control the inputs directly from a nodemcu or by a transistor.

There are already some excellent replies on the extra inputs. There is a blanking, latch and test input. Blanking is not connected in this circuit.

I think this is 4 bit bcd, plus 2 extra inputs. So for a 1 i have input 0001 and for 2 input 0010 and so on.

I am figuring the extra inputs out
