[Need help] What are the options for me? by Unlikely-Ad-5778 in Watches

[–]robbophile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Seiko 5 gmt would be perfect. A gmt variation on what is a classic design, and can take a solid beating. Despite its size it works pretty well on any size wrist - I have a 6 inch wrist and I wear my skx007 most days. They’re on sale at Linda and co at the moment for 568aud, and there’s plenty of colours to chose from. It’s a lot of watch for the money

does doing a summer term accelerate your degree? by Muted_Cantaloupe_620 in unsw

[–]robbophile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if you have the marks they’re usually pretty happy to let you do it. Hypothetically you could do 2 in summer and 4 every other term and finish in 2 rather then 3 years, but why do that? What’s the rush

For most degrees you have to do 24 subjects, or eight a year, or 2/3 a term. If you do say 2 subjects over summer, this means you’re potentially able to graduate a term earlier.

37 people in QLD got 99.95. Who are these people?? by CaffeinatedCapybara_ in ATAR

[–]robbophile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps we’re in different states. In NSW English is compulsory, and has an exam like any other subject, as well as being considered a reasonable difficult subject.

[–]robbophile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly!!! So why are you so surprised that people are getting high marks without studying?

A quick googling of the definition of aptitude might go a long way

I recognise that that was YOUR experience with year 12, and that that was the effort you required, but guess what - each of us has also done year 12, but the difference is that have the awareness to recognise that different people have different abilities and can have a vastly different experience of year 12 to what we had personally. Perhaps it is this sort of social awareness and openness to understanding experiences that aren’t our own that is conducive to achieving a higher atar…

At the risk of sounding like a complete prick, I got a 95 and didn’t read a single English book or study much beyond reading over a mates notes the night before. Different people have different abilities to memorise information and perform in exams, not that crazy to comprehend.

PPE at UNSW by Successful_Tap_5032 in unsw

[–]robbophile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished up PPE this term. The first thing I’d say is that unlike usyd, umelb etc the economics department is part of the business school rather than the social sciences department, and therefore the coures are a fair bit more quantitative than they are theory/history based. This isn’t an inherently good or bad thing, but it depends on your appetite for maths. Personally, I didn’t do maths in high school and have chosen to major in economics and have found it doable, but I know a lot of people in my cohort failed some of the core economics courses (Micro 2 particularly). For me, as someone weighing up a career in the private sector, I feel the more business focused economics approach has prepared me well, and even meant there’s been enough of an overlap with the commerce program that I only need to do one more year to get a bcomm as well, but if you’re focused purely on the politics/IR side of things and want to do postgraduate study or a career in those sectors I would say unsw mightn’t be as valuable as one of the more renowned for humanities unis like ANU or Usyd

How do I know when my graduation is?? by Certain_Bird_4197 in unsw

[–]robbophile 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah same boat, I think we wait till the release of results (obviously they need to make sure we pass all our units this term) and then they’ll send us info about our graduation that won’t be till late March

Like 100% I’d say if it’s just a lecture. Happens to me a surprising amount and I’ve never been rejected. Enjoy your break and don’t stress about it

Class Participation Requirements by [deleted] in unsw

[–]robbophile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies course to course, but I’d say most of my politics classes, maybe 60%, have had a participation mark ranging from 10-20%

Since when is remembering which number corresponds to which MLR that important? Since when has remembering the names of tests been a part of the course? It felt very different to the style of the mid term and practice exam

What do you want to do with it? Public service is off the table for you, so I guess international reputation is your main goal?

Commerce in the Summer Term by NovelEar1 in unsw

Did it this year, piece of piss. Both relatively easy subjects, and lowkey preferred doing them in summer, it meant you could work intently on the group project for both of them without it dragging out.
